If You Like That, Try This

If you like Cooking Mama try KuloNiku: Bowl Up!

Discussion

If you like cooking mama I highly recommend KuloNiku: Bowl Up! This cozy restaurant game lets you chop, season, sizzle, and decorate meatball soup bowls for lovely characters! The characters each have their own stories to interact with and compete against them in the meatball brawls! I love that there is a no timer accessibility mode for wanting to relax! I love decorating my restaurant with all the themes! Give it a go!

No Rest For the Wicked

Are there any games Similar to No Rest for the Wicked?

It's an ARPG, so there are a lot of games like it. You have the big 2 right now, Diablo and Path of Exile. I would say in the ARPG genre, Path of Exile 2 campaign gameplay captures the same souls-like ARPG feel. But both games do end up feeling a lot more spammy at the end game when you have min maxed your build.

But the game whose combat closely matches it for me would be Vrising. This is a completely different genre, being an open-world survival craft. The free-to-play weekend for this game ends in 24 hours, so I recommend giving it a try today before buying.

The Game Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms, I think is the closes to No Rest For the Wicked.

If you like Rocket League, try Turbo Golf Racing or Slapshot: Rebound

Discussion

If you guys are burnt out on Rocket League but still want a physics-based game that doesn't take itself too seriously, check out Turbo Golf Racing. It’s basically Rocket League mechanics, but you're racing to sink a giant golf ball. The boosting and aerials feel super familiar. Slapshot is great too; it's a free hockey game on Steam. It looks super basic, but the physics are good. It takes a minute to get the passing down, but it's super rewarding once it clicks.

Atomic Heart 2

Anyone else looking forward to this? I've not played the first one, but the trailer for it and the very limited gameplay look great! Don't normally play games like this, but always happy to make an exception!

If you like Nahimic, try FxSound instead

Blog/Article

FxSound used to be a paid for premium audio equaliser but has now gone entirely free (as in optional beer money) and provides a much better audio experience than Nahimic achieves on the down firing speakers in Legion devices.

There are also bonus equaliser presets you can download and apply, also for free from a link within the application. Of the options I tried while listening to music on YT and Twitch this morning the Trap preset within the bonus equaliser pack delivered a very nice mix of punchy bass and high end clarity. It makes the Legion Slim 7 16APH8 sound like it has a subwoofer and you can feel the bass in the top cover

Boost Volume and Sound Quality on Your PC - FxSound

I recommend grabbing the beta version because it does not force itself onto the dGPU, they changed the UI framework recently to address the bug that caused that behaviour.

The bonus presets are easy to apply, just extract the ZIP and Import them via the program UI

You also have the option of altering up to 31 channels on the equaliser yourself to tailor the audio to your specific preferences

Good recommendation, FxSound really improves audio compared to Nahimic, especially on laptops.

Any good toddler games like King Boo?

Discussion

I did some research on Reddit and a few other places and found a game my 3-year-old nephew loves, 'King Boo'. He's been playing it like crazy, and I know sooner or later we'll need something new. He's too little to play a lot of the games most people recommend - they often are better suited for 8-10 year olds. Any experience with PC games like this?

if you like Tactical RPGs like XCOM, Battletech, and Mutant Year Zero, try Menace!

Discussion

I've been really enjoying menace, it's a fresh take on the genre. Now, there are perhaps some balance issues, and the enemy AI could use some work, but as the game is in early access, those issues will hopefully eventually be solved. If you wanna wait until the game has gotten some more updates, that might also be a good idea, just wishlist it now and check back in on it later.

Ooh, all those games are good 'uns! I have to say, I saw Menace pop up on my Steam recommendations recently and it looks great - have definitely wishlisted it. Excited to get stuck into a good turn-based tactical RPG.

these are awesome

Are there fun games like Stardew Valley?

Discussion

I enjoy Stardew Valley a lot - Are there other games that have different themes or styles but similar style of play? Thank you!

You HAVE to try Fields of Mistria if you haven't! I nearly have more hours in that than I do Stardew at this point.

Kevin Torres

There are a lot of games with the same gameplay style. I would recommend My Time at Portia/Sandrock. I would describe both of these games as a 3D Stardew.

If you want something with a similar style, then Core Keeper. It's a more action/exploration game, but visually it does remind me of stardew.

If you like IDM, try FDM or XDM instead

Discussion

If you like IDM (Internet Download Manager) but you're sick of the trial expiring and the annoying pop-ups begging you to buy a license, give FDM (Free Download Manager) or XDM (Xtreme Download Manager) a shot. They're both completely free alternatives and honestly do the exact same thing. They have a much cleaner UI and hook into basically any browser perfectly.

Great recommendation, Adib Al Azad! 👍 I just upgraded to version 6.33.x of FDM recently and that thing is FAST!! I had been using 3.9.x for ages and I didn't like the 5.x version. I was updating a bunch of apps last month, and I decided to try the new 6.x version of FDM, and I'm really liking it.

In the Settings, there's an option to "Make portable version", and that's what I did... and then deleted the installed version. This way, I can copy the FDM folder and use it wherever I like, even a USB flash drive.

I just spotted some of the comments here. You can use several apps that include yt-dlp.exe to download YouTube videos. I use ytdlp-interface (it can upgrade itself, ffmpeg, and yt-dlp as Google continues to update YouTube to block video downloads).

Even though I already bought a lifetime license, this is a nice info! Thanks!

If you like Sea of Thieves in space, try WildGate

Discussion

I played the open beta of a game from former blizzard dev called WildGate, very fun game, highly recommend. It's like Sea of Thieves but in space, and played as matches with 5 teams. Super fun. It's officially released tomorrow on July 22, 2025. Highly recommend!

Looks interesting, And Sea of Thieves is awesome especially if you play with friends.

Merashadar

I never played Sea of Thieves but I could stop hearing people refer to Wildgate as Sea of Thieves in space. I will say that I played the Wildgate betas and I had a blast. I found it even more fun if you bring a friend or two.

If You Like REPO, Try YAPYAP

YAPYAP is another horror co-op game that adds its own twist to the "friendslop" genre. Unlike other games like REPO or Lethal Company, your job isn't to collect valuables but to destroy them. You are armed with a variety of wands(spells) and potions that will make your act of vandalism all the more enjoyable.

Full disclaimer. YAPYAP is not listed as an Early Access game, but it very much feels like one. There is a noticeable lack of content that negatively affects its replayability. It's a game with a lot of potential, but I'm not sure how much support is planned (no roadmap available).

Thanks for the recommendation

XCOM 2 Steam Free Play Weekend + Sale

Giveaway/Deal

Just noticed XCOM 2 is currently free to play this weekend on Steam. To go with that the base game is currently on sale at 95% off, the lowest it's been since Feb 2024. And the XCOM 1 and 2 base games plus all DLC bundle is 76% off, not quite the cheapest it's ever been but not far off.

If you like sci-fi turn based strategy RPG games and haven't played XCOM now is a great time to try it out. The XCOM series pretty much set the bar for the genre.

Try the Chronicles of Narnia: the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe for GBA

It’s a unique adaptation of the movie, with some replay value to be found

I’d say it’s a hidden gem

I'm actually pretty good with this. "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is my personal favorite. Though I often liken it more to the American campaign in the Pacific in WWII. #IYKYK

I miss when game development was cheap enough that all these random IP could get AA games that weren't that bad. The 6-7 year dev cycles have completely killed that sort of stuff.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Discussion

I’ve been ruined, I can’t enjoy games anymore after playing BG3. I just keep comparing whatever it is and it falls flat, I know I shouldn’t and I should try to look at each game as its own little world but I can’t help it and I need help finding another masterpiece

I’ve played Larian’s DoS games and the original BGs - I don’t want to say I’m MARRIED to graphics but they are somewhat important to me

Ball X Pit is the brick breaker game I didn't know I wanted

I've been playing it recently and it scratches the exact same itch games like Vampire Survivors did. I Really recommend people give this one a shot, especially since it's relatively cheap and it's on game pass!

It is a great game. I hope it gets updates, more maps, more challenges, more ball evolutions (perhaps a fix for the casino)

If you like battlefield and Star Wars try this Star Wars battlefront 2

Discussion

I was going through my gaming library for something to play. As a Star Wars fan I had forgotten about Star Wars battlefront 2. After installing it I was surprised to find a game under a minute the hole weekend. The game stil looks stunning, the atmosphere and landscape is incredible.

got my highest recommendation. Enjoy my young padawan 😀

Super Mario

Sound like-a good compare. Mario no play such game but friend like is okey dokey

I've heard a few people really talk up Battlefront 2 over the years but never gotten round to trying it. Are there still enough people playing multiplayer or has it gone the way of most FPS games over 4/5 years in that it's now 10% obsessed fanatics, 50% cheats and 40% bots of some kind?

Strategy Game Recommendations

I really like strategy games like age of empire or warcraft 3. Are there any you would recommend?

Lies of P

Discussion

Lies of P was an excellent game and I’m towards the end of the DLC now. This was probably my first attempt at a true souls like game and I enjoyed the experience. I’ve played and enjoyed similar games like god of war (2018) and black myth wukong, but not sure if those quite fit the same category. I gravitated towards lies of p because I heard about how good the story was. I think primarily I look for a good/captivating story and then fun combat is more of a secondary (but still important) factor. That is why I also shy away from the true souls games. I am not saying those stories aren’t great too, but I think I prefer when the story is told directly to you and is more in your face. I could be wrong as I never attempted any of the games and my only understanding is from watching a play through or boss fights. Anyway any recommendations for PC?

Kevin Torres

I would just recommend you try Elden Ring next. What is super funny here is that you went right in and played one of the hardest souls-like games out there. Lies of P is easily more difficult than Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, etc.

I saw just a bit of Lies and am intrigued. Might be popular around here too.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Discussion

I like the cozy feeling the game had with music and visuals. the platfroomering in the game felt good and boss fights where very fun. I played on ps4 but only had one contoler so i could't play it with anohter person. I am looking for more games with muliplayer and that are well designed and crative as this game

On PlayStation, the Ratchet & Clank series.

Anything good as Banished?

Discussion

I loved Banished but it doesn't appear there will ever be a sequel. I've played a few games that Steam said were similar but none matched Banished. Anyone know of anything that is similar?

Kevin Torres

A more depressing game would be Front Punk. Its a lot harder, but it scratched a similar itch for me.

Farthest Frontier is probably the one most people will recommend.

Timberborn is basically the exact same game, but with beavers.

Manor Lords is a more realistic version of Banished, but it is still in early access and hasn't really updated much.

Games like Snatchers

Discussion

I am addicted to detectivey adventure games, especially cyberpunk text adventurey ones.
Does anyone know of any games in this genere I might have missed?
I know theres space ship cobra for the Sega CD and Policenauts and 2064: Read only memories, But I'm hoping theirs more. I really loved that format of adventure games.

3
Kevin Torres

Early Kojima was super unique; the closest game to it would be Policenauts, but this is a super hard game to find. This game is often compared to Snatchers and will be your best follow-up.

Games like the Yakuza series

Anything like "The Pathless?"

Discussion

I played on Apple Arcade, and haven't encountered anything like it since.

I would recommend Stray, Never Alone, Beyond Blue, Spirit of the North, and The First Tree. Particularly stray if you happen to like cats, it's very cute.

Kevin Torres

Hmmm, if we are just looking for games that are about casual/relaxing exploration, then

  1. Windbound

  2. Journey

  3. Abzu

  4. Gris

  5. AER Memories of Old

Looking for something like Sea of Thieves

Strong preference to be pirate-related unless it has many other striking similarities in gameplay. Doesn't need to be first person. Ideally PC or Xbox.
