I have been a desktop gamer for years, and I always thought that nothing could beat the feeling of playing on a powerful PC with a large monitor.
But Lenovo Legion Go might be totally different thing, I was blown away by the reviews on youtube how smooth and immersive the gameplay was on such a compact device.
I could play all my favorite games without any lag or compromise on quality. It felt like having a mini PC in my hands!”. It is not just a handheld gaming device, it is a complete Windows device that lets me do everything I can do on my PC, but on the go.
I can browse the web, watch videos, edit documents, and of course, play games with stunning graphics and performance. The Lenovo Legion Go is truly a game-changer for me!”
Another question about software : will it be possible to set a maximum charge rate for the battery at 80% and/or 90% to reduce degradation over cycles ?
I've seen somewhere that it supports power pass-through, so it can bypass the battery and just run off of the mains in order to help battery longevity?
I would like to know if it allows charging with any usb type c charger or if it will need a high charge one. And if with a high charge one it can be used in conjunction with a standard HDMI connection without the need for adapters so you can play without worrying about the battery.
Besides if it will be open to be able to install other OS without problems of drivers and compatibility. And if it allows dual boot with Chrome OS with full Play Store for greater efficiency and lighter use of low power consumption then great =D

Yeah but that's something else.
There are options on laptops and Ally that make your battery stop charging at 80% or 90%, even when the device is turned off, for example when charging overnight.
Hi everyone.
Day 3 of answering questions is here!
I will be here every day until friday evening to cover the questions. Also, don't forget there is a similar thread on our carbon-lid and liquid-cooled mini-led Legion 9i - it deserves some love too! https://gaming.lenovo.com/emea/threa...e-product-team
Some answers for Go are still being verified, but here is what I got for you today:
eGPU questions:
- Legion Go comes with two full-speed USB 4 ports. If you can find one eGPU that works with that - feel free to use. However, we did not test such scenario, and we do not consider it to be the main one.
- The one scenario that we consider instead is streaming from your main PC/NB/Console via WiFi. Basically "why pay for extra expensive GPU enclosure if you already have the powerful gaming machine?".
Trackpad usage + gyro:
- Officially we claim that the trackpad is for "Windows ease of use", but of course we think it is a huge benefit in RPGs, strategies and so on. I did not try it myself, but I see no reason why the popular guides on how to pair it with gyro to enable precision aiming in FPS wouldn't work. Did not test it though.
- Gyro is in the main unit, not in the controllers. For now.
Screen:
- It's default landscape mode (hooray!)
- basically other than that it is quite similar to Y700 tablet screen, but we did not test e-pen there (still waiting the info on that).
Thermals and TDP/TGP:
- All BIOS and software is not final yet. We aim for 20W in battery mode, we confirm 25W plugged, we aim for 35W in plugged, but most likely we will stop at 30W for noise reasons - at some point the noise rises exponentially, so the difference between 20-25-30 may not be big, but that last mile of 30 to 35 actually adds unreasonable amount of noise.
Speakers:
There are two 2W speakers, we do not focus on audio as the main selling point, unlike screen/performance/battery/controls. See "features that might have been" section here: https://gaming.lenovo.com/emea/threa...l=1#post156436
Question: is a higher-end 32GB LPDDR5X version being considered?
- This is a gaming handheld device. With not the highest settings as well. There is neither need, nor space on the MB for this amount of LPDDR5X, and also increasing the capacity may affect the stable speed of RAM, and may also require thicker (read:heavier) motherboard.
But we will think of it in the future versions.
Q2. I know the Lenovo software is able to show battery info for controller but did you also think of Light indicator on the controllers?
Q3. Why didn’t you use the same rails as the switch system so it’s cross compatible and third companies can also create unique controllers.
Q4. Can 3rd companies borrow your rails or is it only Lenovo?
Q2 - we actually have dedicated button to show quick setup menu overlay, where you can change Hz, resolution (yes, on the fly!), brightness, wattage, performance modes, and also you can see battery left both for main unit and for controllers. It was specifically designed to not jump out of the game if user needs quick glance or access to these settings.
Q3 - I thought it was quite obvious "why", since the answer is in the question, so I will leave this unanswered.
Q4 - we are discussing it internally.
Q4. Why 2242? Not the most common 2280? There is about 35 times more in the market of 2280 than 2242. I saw there is alot of space on the inside, why not make it more compact to fit a 2280
Q5. Why not make the Joystick thumbsticks magnetic to change? why hard to change... Im afraid I will damage it when pulling it out.
Q6. Why the right controller back buttons are located diffrently than the left controller? Its hard to reach.
Q7. Why there is FPS mod button? why not make the button magnetic and activated automatically when connected to the plastic ring/holder.
Q8. How hard is it (now) to change the design? are we late for that?
I have alot of improvment points that would help the Legion Go alot with out adding any (extra) cost.
Q4 - 2280 take much more space, and higher capacities may consume unreasonable for handheld amounts of power (generate too much heat). But size constraint is the main reason.
Q5, Q7 - do not want driving cost up unnecessary. Sounds like some extra premium feature that we do not see reasonable on a €800 device.
Q6 - to not obstruct holder in FPS mode. No, they are not hard to press/find.
Q8 - waaay past that. Any change and feature always adds cost, as it is not just the feature itself, it is also complexity increase (incompatibility chance goes up), HW/SW development time increase, testing time increase. Also, see "features" here: https://gaming.lenovo.com/emea/threa...l=1#post156436
Q1) will the Legion Go have some form of AR coating on the display? What about on the "ultrathin screen protector glass"?
Q2) What white point and EOTF is the Legion Go display calibrated to?
Q3) Any options in Legion Space app to easily clamp color gamut?
Q1 - investigating. For now I can tell that screen protector accessory has really high transparency (92%+), really low thickness (0.33mm) and H9 hardness (and ALS sensor cutout).
Q2/Q3 - this is not a professional designer insturment, it is gaming handheld. So, we do not offer color management calibration or software there. But it is Windows PC, you can still calibrate it with color calibrator in any way you would need.
I've seen somewhere that it supports power pass-through, so it can bypass the battery and just run off of the mains in order to help battery longevity?
Wouldn't be possible to make use of the controllers battery to continue powering the legion go when it's low on battery ? ( sounds absurd but just wanted to ask :p )
- The controllers batteries are way too low capacity for that. But you can use powerbanks. Also, the power controller supports battery bypass, so when you are plugged in (wallet mode, plugged-in mode, whatever you call it), the battery resource is not spent at all. Same with powerbanks, if you attach them above the 95% battery capacity.
I do want to clarify that your official Lenovo gaming specs page said it had VRR and it was then removed a couple hours later.
Once again - the leaked trailers/specs are not "Lenovo official release", please do not confuse those two.
There is a release date and there is an official release info. They did not mention VRR. Hope this topic is closed now, especially after I have clarified why for 144Hz handheld the VRR is not a focus feature.
reviews complain about the annoying noise of the d-pad and possible even the shape. Is this still subject to change?.
Yes. None of the reviewers had their hands on the final quality of mass production units, they all had engineering ones. Especially those who had "early access" - they had quite early samples. So, don't sweat it too early =)
Another question about software : will it be possible to set a maximum charge rate for the battery at 80% and/or 90% to reduce degradation over cycles ?
- Honestly, there is new software release every week, so even if it is not there, I think it will be quite easy to add later on. But it's not our main focus at the moment. This is a standard feature on our Legion Laptops, so I would say it should be part of the Legion family experience.
- The USB-C charge is PD 3.0 compliant and supports 65W fast charge, but you can also use lower 45W chargers. The USB-C ports also support both DP and PD , so you can use one cable for both, if you have such a device (for example, some Lenovo monitors provide single cable setup capabilities, giving up to 100W/140W charging via the same USB-C cable that also delivers signal)
- Only Windows 11 is supported officially, and we have no plans to expand support, as this is a gaming handheld, and we think it is the best choice for vast majority of games.
Thank you for your answer and for being so honest, I like it. I'm a bit disappointed about speakers but I hope it's still decent at least !
About TDP, believe me you'll have one main request from a LOT of players which is raising that maximum TDP on battery to 25W.
The Z1 Extreme has a pretty significant bump in performance between 20W and 25W (much more than between 25W and 30W) so a lot of players play at 25W on handheld (even if it's not the most power efficient).
- It's default landscape mode (hooray!) - basically other than that it is quite similar to Y700 tablet screen, but we did not tet e-pen there (still waiting the info on that).
Can you please clarify what you mean by "its default landscape mode" ? On a video review by "The Tech Chap" (Here is the video with the timestamp)
The device clearly shows that the Active Signal Mode is being seen as Portrait Display. On all other Windows handheld devices in the past that use Portrait Displays, there is a compatibility issue with certain games due to the resolution of the Active Signal being seen. There are janky workarounds, but this is not ideal. Additionally when doing things like installing GPU drivers, the screen will reset to Portrait Mode and need flipped again back to Landscape.
So are you confirming this is not the case, and that the display is in fact, a native landscape display?
Thanks!
