@DoctorEldritch oh the 60% or more is a pretty brutal wait! There are some games I definitely bought day 1, very few, but still.

That's mostly for big games, they usually have a few DLCs on the line, so waiting is not really an issue, I'd have to wait either way.Even for indie games, I never buy games on day one. If I know there are DLCs planned, I wait until they are all out, but even when developers say that there will be no DLCs, I usually give every game a couple of months for polishing. Hotfixes and all that.

What are the few games that you got on day one?

I got cozy Caravan now(sponsored even)! Will report back how I like it when I have done my proper coverage for it! @DoctorEldritch

Ah, thank you for letting me know, and congratulations! Will look forward to it! 😊

Thank you , I like it and I'll try to get it ASP

good luck, hope you manage to get into the alpha test group. Or did you mean getting it when it comes out in full, whenever that would be?

I have covered the game now and you can pick which platform you wish to watch it on:

I really like it, it's cute, you can disable the stop-motion effects. It has some fun modern culture references (which I won't spoil but the "never..."), there's a big quests, small quests and a surprise collectible quest. There's also cooking and selling at the market. Overall I think it offers a bit more than I expected from seeing it at Wholesome Direct, in a good way!

@Telomina Ah, thank you! Cornucopia of links, for any taste 😊

I watched it, thank you for covering it. And indeed, one of the things that is common in small wholesome games is repetitiveness. Even with Tiny Bookshop it got to me 😅 I have one question though: is there any time management involved? As in, you travel around different settlements, but do you get to choose when to travel to the next one, or does the game do this for you, and you have, for example, a week in settlement 1 and then you're off, no matter if you managed to explore everything and do all the quests or not?

Why do you not like stop motion effects, by the way?

There is a time aspect! Time moves from day to evening depending on your actions (not time), I haven't really figured out what actions do different time changes besides for "market day"( Saturday and Sunday, seems to be mandatory ) will take a full day each. You can't go to bed too early because the character will refuse saying there's too much to do.

I don't like the stop-motoon because to me it felt more like a poor optimization capping a game at 30 fps (as can be seen in my trailer reaction https://youtu.be/bbAMHUQzSlw?si=ycHZN41BKXUf8cKz at 16.00) which just messed with my head a bit. I like when games feels smooth.

Did you see that Tiny book shop added hundreds of books in an update? Maybe it ended up being one of those games you played a bit too early, "before all updated are out". Even though it hadn't been planned I think it's a good time for me to go back to it. Well, at some point on February because my end of January is absolutely stacked.

@Telomina Thank you, that is good to know. That is time management I can handle, I think. It's just that I find the constant clock somewhat stressful. When I played Wylde Flowers, I had to put timeflow to the slowest for it to be cosy and relaxing, it was too fast and hectic otherwise. But if time only advances after you do some activities, like in Atelier games, then that's better. I like it when success depends on planning, not on how fast you run around talking to everyone and doing everything, you know?

Ah, now I remember you mentioning it in that video, yeah. I get that. When I watched that bit at 16:00, I first thought that it was not so bad and reminiscent of old cartoons from my childhood, the puppet stop-animated ones or ones with more crude animation from the 70s. But then, I started to feel nauseous 😅 So yeah, I get what you mean.

Ah, yes, I read about it, but I finished it already by now. More books is good indeed, it needed that, but what I would wish for is more characters. They have good ones, but I thought there were too few.

I feel a bit so-so with time management like this, sometimes I just wanna go to bed, even in a game. I have struggled with some Atelier Games where time was very dependent on the crafting and other things were timed as well, so I really like now, that even if time goes (to be fair I didn't finish Resleriana yet) it won't "ruin" the story or make you fail in any way.

I am so glad they changed it. They have a couple of other really neat accessibility options as well, like removing wet sounds.

Ah, typical. The one game you didn't wait years to play and they added something later you would have liked. I do agree that the ones I have seen so far are really good.

@Telomina Well, I find time management mechanic in all its forms more stress-inducing than I'd like. "live" time I dislike the most, I always feel like there is no time to actually enjoy the game, you're always in a hurry. The turn-based time mechanic is better, there you can at least plan it without it being too hectic. I do not mind it as much if there is no "fail deadline", as you said, but if there is, it can be a bit hit-or-miss with me. I like Potionomics, and Persona 4 was ok, but only just with that one, and only because I used a mod that allowed me to time-travel (I wanted to see all the cutscenes in one playthrough).

More accessibility options is always good. But what is wrong with "wet sounds". And, actually, what are those? Something like rain sound?

IKR. One time I decided to get out of my shell and not follow my principles as closely, and that's what I get 😅 Only made me more sure I best stick to my usual MO. As for Tiny Bookshop, I would not mind giving it another go, but probably no sooner than in a couple of years now...
