    • Windows 10 PCs can now stream console games on the Xbox App
      • The Xbox App for Windows 10 PCs will now let players stream console games on their computer, thanks to an update that went live on 14th September..
      • The game streaming that the update enables will let Xbox Game Pass subscribers play games that their PCs otherwise might not have the specs to handle. According to Microsoft, playing games directly from an Xbox console with Remote Play will provide the smoothest experience, while using the cloud will be slightly more taxing, but won’t require a download.
      • Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers are currently able to stream games in browsers from their phones, tablets, and PCs, but the new option will allow streaming directly into the Windows 10 Xbox App. One thing that isn’t available yet is streaming games directly to Xbox Series X consoles, but Microsoft says that feature’s on the way later this year.
      • The cloud option is limited to titles on Xbox Game Pass. Other games that players own may be streamed using Remote Play, because the game is running on the console..
      • To stream games to the Xbox App from the cloud, players just need a compatible controller and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Otherwise the Remote Play option is available through the Xbox App on Windows 10 PCs

    • Dying Light 2 delayed to 2022
      • Dying Light 2 Stay Human won’t meet its previously scheduled release date — it was supposed to ship this December — and will now arrive on Feb. 4, 2022, developer Techland announced on 14th September.
      • Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka confirmed Dying Light 2’s new release date on Twitter, apologizing to fans for the wait.
      • “The team is steadily progressing with the production and the game is nearing the finish line,” Marchewka said. “The game is complete and we are currently playtesting it. It is by far the biggest and the most ambitious project we’ve ever done. Unfortunately, we’ve realized for us to bring the game to the level we envision, we need more time to polish and optimize it ...” “We are sorry to keep you all waiting a little longer, but we want the game to meet your highest expectations on release and we don’t want to compromise on this.” As a consolation, Marchewka said that fans can expect previews of the console and PC versions of the game sometime in October.
      • Dying Light 2 Stay Human is bound for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The sequel will send players to the City, described by Techland as “mankind’s last stronghold in the fight” against the virus that turned the population of Harran into zombielike creatures in Dying Light. The day-night cycle and parkour-inspired traversal of the original game will return in Dying Light 2. Players will take control of a new protagonist, Aiden Caldwell, who joins up with a group of survivors known as the Nightrunners.
      • Techland announced Dying Light 2 at E3 2018 and was originally planned for a spring 2020 launch. In our preview of the game from E3 2019, we compared it to a first-person action movie. “It can be dizzying at times, with the main character leaping from rooftop to rooftop, then grappling with enemies at close range,” we said at the time. “At other times it can be downright frightening, with tense standoffs against the undead deep inside dark, cavernous buildings.”

    • Star Wars: Hunters trailer brings chaos from all over the galaxy
      • The Force can be mysterious, but Star Wars video games even more so. Star Wars: Hunters has emerged from the abyss of a galaxy far, far away with a new cinematic trailer that offers few new gameplay details but plenty of attitude. And that attitude is pretty fun!
      • The trailer depicts a dustup between a Sith warrior and a Mandalorian bounty hunter that gets increasingly out of hand as others join the fray: Wookiees, Stormtroopers, two Jawas in a trench coat, and a droid named J-3D1, all armed to the teeth and seemingly ready to fight everyone around them. It is, in other words, the perfect encapsulation of a chaotic multiplayer game set on one of Star Wars many desert planets.
      • Announced during the February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Star Wars: Hunters is a free-to-play multiplayer arena combat game for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Zynga, the pioneer of free-to-play social games like Farmville, Star Wars: Hunters takes place on the planet Vespaara, home to an arena where Hunters across the galaxy compete in team-based battles.
      • Initially announced for later this year, Star Wars: Hunters is now expected to arrive in 2022.

    • Modder puts Super Mario 64 into Minecraft
      • Mario can fly, jump, and punch his way through Minecraft worlds, thanks to a new mod from Pdxdylan. The mod, which isn’t yet complete, allows the developer to run the Super Mario 64 engine inside the classic sandbox game.
      • A clip posted by Pdxdylan on Twitter shows Mario from Super Mario 64 exploring Minecraft environments like caves and The Nether. This modded version of Minecraft allows Mario to do everything that he does in original Nintendo 64 game, like jump, punch, and swim. The video even showed Mario using a Wing Cap to take flight.
      • The modder noted that the project is still a work in progress, and not representative of a final project. Still, it looks like there’s a lot there. The video doesn’t show Mario mining or crafting, but he does interact with the Minecraft world and objects around him. He can use materials like spiderwebs to climb across gaps, he can punch sheep and other creatures, too.
      • This isn’t the first time Minecraft and the Mario worlds have collided. Mario came to the game with a special world and skin when the launched on Nintendo Switch. But for those hoping to play this mod, that day might not come. In a follow-up tweet, Pdxdylan said they can’t promise a download, since Nintendo often issues DMCA takedowns to fan projects. “The most I can do now is post silly videos of what I do in-game with it,” they said.

    • Ren and Stimpy are joining Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl as a duo
      • The 1990’s cartoon nostalgia continues: Ren and Stimpy (from the The Ren & Stimpy Show) will be added to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs announced on 14th September.
      • The chihuahua-and-cat duo’s knack for darkly comic hijinks — especially Ren’s tendency to aggressively vent his rage — make them a no-brainer to add to this Smash-like platform fighter. The duo will function as a tag-team that works as a single playable brawler. Basically, they’ll be using each other as weapons, according to a PlayStation Blog. They’ll be joining a growing cast of iconic characters from the network, including those from SpongeBob Squarepants, Danny Phantom, and Avatar: The Last Airbender among others.
      • The tag-team will have moves and attacks that reference iconic moments in the original 1990’s cartoon, Ludosity project manager Joel Nyström and Fair Play Labs Game Designer Matías R. Singer announced in the post. These include references to the Log from the Blammo advertisement and the ‘Happy Happy Joy Joy’ song. Ren and Stimpy will also move a little more slowly but have a larger attack range, in order to be “welcoming to even novice players” according to the developers.
      • This seems to continue the theme of developers trying to capture the spirit of the animated shows these characters came from — particularly any memorable moments that have taken off as memes. The developers noted, in the announcement, that “each of Ren & Stimpy’s moves is inspired by a particular scene of the show, but we’ll leave it up to the players to find all the references.”
      • The Ren & Stimpy Show was so beloved for its classic feel — especially compared to other fan-favorites of the 1990s, like Rugrats, which largely departed from the heightened, mischievous tone of older cartoons. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl seems to be aiming a portal back into those halcyon days.

    • Rocksmith Plus delayed as studio revisits core features
      • Rocksmith Plus won’t make the summer 2021 launch window developers originally hoped for, the studio announced on Tuesday. It’ll be using the extra time to work on several core features, using feedback from from a closed beta that took place in June and July.
      • Lead producer Arthur von Nagel didn’t characterize the news as a delay, however, saying Ubisoft San Francisco “didn’t set a hard date because we wanted the flexibility to react to feedback and to adjust release timelines to match.”
      • Von Nagel did not say when the game would now launch. The studio will be working on feedback in four areas — song library; audio inputs and note detection; progression and education; UI, search, and content discoverability.
      • With regard to the song library, “we’re committed to offering over 5,000 songs” at launch, Von Nagel wrote. The closed beta purposefully had a selection of about 500 songs. He went into greater detail about the other three development areas in a message to the community.
      • “We understand that this delay is disappointing,” Von Nagel wrote. “Every Rocksmith Plus player deserves to easily find the music you care about, to feel a sense of growth and mastery over your instrument, and to trust that the notes you play are heard fairly and accurately.”
      • Rocksmith Plus was announced in June during E3 2021. The guitar-teaching sim is scheduled to launch on Windows PC first, followed by launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Following that, Rocksmith Plus will come to Android and iOS devices, too.
