2023 was supposed to be the year of the show's rebirth, since the last physical edition was in 2019, which was before the COVID epidemic (in the world before, as some say), but apparently things are going to change. be more complicated. Because in addition to the three manufacturers, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo who will be absent. We recently learned that Ubisoft, Devolver, Sega and Tencent won't be there either. Which means, in short, that the 3 manufacturers as well as major publishers will not be present. It was a matter of time before E3 was canceled altogether this year. As seen on their tweet:

You should also know that these manufacturers and publishers, even if they will not be present, were still going to hold digital conferences on the sidelines of the E3 show, like Ubisoft which will have its Ubisoft Forward for example.

What do you think of this news ? Will the E3 show that we were waiting for so much back in the time disappear ?

Man this sucks big time 😢 Apart from major publishers having their own events (and ESA's mismanagement), Summer Games Fest seems to be the grim reaper that deterred E3 from having it's rising like a Phoenix from the ashes moment. While this is ultimately a good thing for game devs, the selfish part of me really wishes it continued. A week filled with hype and joy with iconic reveals like FF7R and the GOW 2018 live performance is just unmatched 😔

Lols no way! Look I really like Geoff, but this is kind of evil lmfaooo 😂 He did post on twitter about how E3 wasn't able to keep up with the digital-only paradigm shift, so he had to step in and change things. The pandemic really screwed things over eh 😅

I think that the trend towards digital conferences and events has been growing for some time now, and this could be an opportunity for these companies to reach a wider audience in a more accessible and cost-effective way. It's possible that E3 may evolve or even disappear, but I believe that the gaming industry will continue to innovate regardless.

@AhmedOsmaan that's true, but there are still physical events like Tokyo Game Show, Paris Games Week and GamesCom (Germany), and those events were/are an opportunity for people to try games that are still in development, and also for developers to have feedbacks too. I think that both digital and physical events can coexist and if the E3 want to come back they'll have to adapt, like you said
