Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter and walked in to the headquarters holding a sink in his hands, yelling "LET THAT SINK IN", we've been getting used to his controversial actions and tweets.

This weekend Elon Musk in a barrage of tweets admitted that the advertisers have not been returning to the platform as expected after messy takeover. He expressed his desire to change the direction of Twitter by replacing the well-known bird logo with an X. He justified it by his fascination with the letter X.

Twitter's official profile now displays a white X on black background. The company has also been renamed to X Corp prior to this declaration. Allegedly Elon Musk said "And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds".

For me personally this means the end of the Twitter I wanted to use. I know people who already uninstalled the application over this.

@Saka is it still a "twit" if there are no birds? ahah

@Sarkhan Maybe they will be "Xaggerations" instead. 🤔

@Saka ahaha that's a good one! I have never used Twitter honestly, I had it for a while and delete it even before ever posting anything. Personally, I will not feel any difference!

@Sarkhan I've been trying to move away from centralised media, as lately every social media had some sort of crisis. Twitter like in this topic, Meta (FB and Instagram) are knee deep in trouble too and Reddit just managed to offend most of its moderators with the API changes in July.

I am going to miss following war journalists from Twitter though. It was once a good place to keep track of what's happening in the East before it was published in other media (or often - not published at all, because the world moved on to other events). You know, when you share a large border with Russia, you kinda want to know about their moves. But that's getting a little bit too political, so I will end it here.

Twitter was also good for catching people's attentions, which was good for advertisers or people wanting to make some noise. Getting the same amount of interactions on the post on the decentralised alternatives, such as Mastodon, requires a lot more involvement than just having a post liked/shared by the right people.

@Saka yeah for sure it had many pros, however I am trying to be less time as possible on socials, I have left Facebook many years ago, never had twitter and Instagram I really use it only as a personal diary made of pictures, nothing more. However I agree with you, some news are hidden to the public eye and it's hard to find them unless you visit places like twitter or reddit.

@Sarkhan I agree, generally it is a very healthy approach to minimize time spent on social media. People tend to forget that a lot of content on the socials shows only a small piece of reality that is often posed to be perfect. Lots of bad things coming from that.

I have been using RSS in news lately, but I am struggling to fill my world news feed from that. I get better tech/gaming news than before though. 😁

@Saka I had a Twitter account only for a few months and deleted my account. Maybe X will be better, who knows? Twitter was too involved in politics and there were a lot of wokeness. I prefer Facebook and Instagram. Most of my time is spent on Instagram where I promote for various companies. When I tried using Twitter as a promotional platform my post would be removed or blocked.

@DracoTarot I doubt it would turn out better. Not when the leader is announcing things as "done deals" without doing a basic background checks and trapping himself into lengthy legal battles.

There are several trademark issues with the X, on top of the questionable ambiguity surrounding "x content".

It's truly sad to see a good website crumble because one person has enough money to shut any sort of opposition =(
It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from here.
