A TV potpourri

    Hello Legion Gamers!

It occurred to me that we have not spoken about any series lately. And there are a few interesting news on the TV front besides the acclaimed Fallout (which I still have not watched as of the time of this post 😅). So here are a few highlights as of late:

Shogun wrapped up recently, it was very well received and spiked interest in feudal Japan across the globe. Doubly pleasant is that the creators used the source material and ended the story without the plans for a sequel, as it is meant to be a standalone story. That's an attitude I can get behind nowadays when it sometimes seems as if we're drowning in spin-offs, sequels, prequels, reboots and whatever else. I am actually planning to watch this one before Fallout.

But speaking of the series that do deserve a good sequel and got it, the second season of Severance finished production. They had a bit of hurdles because of the strikes, and it will be a bit of time yet until it's released, but the filming part is over:

I liked the first season very much, so am looking forward to the next one. And for those who are not familiar with it, here is a trailer:

Then a bit of news from the movie side of things. Not a major thing, but the movie Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez got a trailer:

The trailer got more dislikes than likes with people unhappy about the cliched plot, weak dialogues and similarities to the Respawn franchise. But the reason I mention it here is that, according to the author, he was inspired by the Titanfall games. And as I worked on the second of them, this is my show of solidarity 😅

And finally, a bit of news from the opposite side of the globe: going full circle by starting with Shogun, I am wrapping up with some anime news: the trailer came out for the anime Look Back:

Sorry, could not find a trailer with good subtitles. The interesting thing about this particular anime is that it is based on the manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the author of The Chainsaw-Man, anime fans will probably know about this one. But the vibe is very different and many claim that this manga is his most heart-felt story. Which for me is interesting. It is set to premiere on the 28th of June.

@Saka, Shogun and Look Back may be of particular interest to you, Shogun because it has some sword-fighting, and Look Back because the main characters are both drawing, and it is one of the driving forces for the plot. I hope you'll be able to watch them sometime.

That's about it from me on the recent news, but maybe someone else has some other gems to share?

I can recommend the 3 body problem from Netflix, it was actually pretty good :)

@SKYTRiXSHA Oh yeah! I've been hearing about it in glimpses here and there and put it on my list, but have not looked into it yet, partially out of fear of spoilers (because unlike with Shogun, here I have not read the source material). If you vouch for it, I will bump it on my list.

In other news, yesterday the first season of Dead Boy Detectives came out. A series based on Neil Gaiman comic, so may be of interest to those who liked Sandman or Good Omens or American Gods. It has 7.4 on IMDb, so I put it on my list but closer to the bottom there. And I am biased, but I like the comic better already because in it the main characters actually were boys and not almost fully grown men they are in the series. Though I get it why the producers made that casting. The same thing happened with Number Five from the Umbrella Academy.

Oh, good to see that Shogun is available on Disney+. Family got annoyed by the changes to subscription plans in Netflix and thus I no longer have access to it.

Once upon a time I was fairly interested in Japan from Edo and Meiji periods, so the series would fit that.

@Saka Yeah, it is on Disney+ in Europe. I actually finished watching it yesterday. I liked it overall, but there were a few decisions I had issues with, though I would not go deeper into them before because of spoilers.

What changed with Netflix subscription? I do not have it right now, so I do not follow the changes there all that.

Are you looking forward to Ghost of Tsushima then? Only two weeks left 😉

@DoctorEldritch Basically it got more expensive and now it's required that all family members live under the same roof. Disney+ doesn't care where the subaccounts log in from.

About Ghost of Tsushima, I would be more hyped if my executive function managed to get more time to play newer games. But I do want to try it at some point!

@Saka Oh yeah, after you said it, I remembered reading something like that in one of the newsflashes that appear on sites sometimes. I remember thinking that it'd be a hassle because I like to stay with my parents in the summerhouse during summer, so my address is different then, and I'd need to deal with that if I get a subscription. But I ended up not getting a new one yet. These days I wait and binge mostly, after enough series I want to watch are out.

That sounds tough, hang in there. How are you doing in general, I hope you are better than the last time we spoke?

@DoctorEldritch It's same old, except I put my foot down, so I finally got a referral to a specialist instead of a GP doing "treatment" for months over webchat. Hopefully that will move things forward, although the wait might be long. Neurologist queues tend to be awful.

@Saka Good luck, hopefully, it won't be too long. Though I get what you're going through, at least a bit, I myself have been trying to get a diagnosis for some stomach infection for over two months now, and they keep sending me from one GP to another and insisting that it is just an irritation and asking me to give them samples over and over. Meanwhile, I don't even remember the last time I felt reasonably healthy, probably in January. Ugh. I hope the neurologist can help you.

@DoctorEldritch Fingers crossed you get the diagnosis soon!

I don't know what's the situation in the UK, but in Finland the healthcare is still exhausted after covid and at the same time, the current government is limiting the funding. Especially the specialist care is going to get drastic cuts, and I can't help but fear the worst. The private healthcare only covers basic stuff in here, anything more advanced has to go to the public healthcare. But with those planned cuts, how is that going to work?
