@ZaidH That reminded me of this bit in Doctor Who:

    Something along the lines of:

Fanbase: Yasuke is depicted as a samurai but historically he was not a samurai.
Ubisoft: We acknowledge that this is a matter of debate and discussion.
    Fanbase: Well that's alright then!

And so forth about each complaint 😅

@ZaidH To be fair, when you get down to it, Ubisoft is entitled to make the game the way they want, even if it does cause concerns of historical accuracy, among others. and fanbase and Japan are entitled to complain and boycott the game should they so wish if they think it is not up to par. Free market and all...

It'd be nice if everyone took heed to the historical and cultural nuances of their artworks, but we're not there yet. And maybe it's all a ploy to be provocative: the game got plenty of free publicity out of it indeed, even if not exactly positive. I don't think I'm gonna play it anytime soon, though.

@ZaidH They said that they tried to make the game as authentic as possible. So it took them 4 years to do that.

Well... I wish they told more about that "external consultants and historians" bit, I would be interested to know who those people were.

There are several things I want to point out in the article, but the line about Ubisoft teams in Osaka and Tokyo stood out to me. What better historical source than the Japanese teams themselves, who could consult proper historians instead of certain individuals who MIGHT (still unclear about this) have added fiction in their book—a book that was meant to portray history.

We had made some forests based on the Greece landscape [for Odyssey], but when we went, we noticed it was very different to what we'd done, and we had to change it. You don't necessarily find that stuff out when doing historical research.

Could've consulted the Japanese teams for this as well eh 😅
