    Hello Legion Gamers!

Today is International Music Day! A perfect day to talk about music, and what better way to start than by remembering @DracoTarot post about music personality types from 3 (!) years ago. Thank you @DracoTarot, even if I am not as extraverted as my fondness for jazz would suggest 😅

But music is not only tied to personality types but also to the moods, some studies suggest. So if you're looking to get into a specific mood, listening to some music genre may help. And today, I though it'd be a fun little idea to look at what music invokes what moods, as suggested by that study:

    Classical

Classical music is associated with positive outcomes in cognitive performance and mood regulation and has the potential to induce feelings of calmness, peace, or clarity. In fact, it has even been found to reduce stress and anxiety in clinical settings, such as during dental procedures or surgery. So next time you have a dental visit, it may be a good idea to ask your doctor to put on Mozart or Bach 😉 And in more day-to-day scenarios, listening to classical music may help to feel focused or relaxed.

    Rock and Heavy Metal

Rock music may increase productivity and uplift moods by producing a euphoric sensation through its upbeat rhythms. As for Heavy Metal, some suggest that it can provoke higher levels of energy. Then there are those claiming that listening to it may onset feelings of anxiety which culminates in a cathartic effect, allowing listeners to manage their negative emotions more effectively. So next time you're feeling anxious, try listening to some, maybe it will help 😉 @DracoTarot what say you?

    Jazz and Blues

The complex harmonies and often improvisational nature of these genres can evoke deep emotional responses in a wide range from melancholy to ecstasy. Jazz's unpredictable nature, in particular, has been suggested to increase creativity by stimulating the brain's creative pathways, so next time you have a creative task, maybe listening to some jazz will help 😉

    Pop Music
Pop music is full of catchy melodies and repetitive structures, and that may help to ease the feeling of stress and confusion and promote happy feelings and relaxation. Maybe the gap between classical music (which too has its share of repetitive structures) is really not that wide 😉

    Country Music

Country music with its twangy guitars and storytelling lyrics often focuses on love, heartache, and the simple joys of life. It may lead to feelings of melancholy and sentimentality and at times nostalgia about the "good old days". So next time you're in the mood for that, give it a listen 😉

    Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

The music of this genre is famous for its driving beats, synthesisers, and energetic rhythms. Closely associated with large music festivals and nightclub culture, it may not be for everyone, but listening to it in the right setting may create a sense of euphoria and tighten your senses. So next time you need to do something that requires heightened senses (jigsaw puzzle, maybe?), this music may help. And if not, at least you'll be euphoric through it 😉

And this is all I have for now. There is music for every mood! If you are a fan of any of the genres mentioned here, do you think your mood changes when you listen as the study suggests? Or maybe you listen to some other genre that has not been looked into yet?

I LOVE music so much, in fact, I do my drawings while listening to music and they´re very intertwined : )
In my case, I listen mostly to electronic music and my mood does change depending on the album I´m listening to. What about you? : )

@DoctorEldritch Oh dear. Apologies for the late reply. There is no notification you've tagged me in this post.

You're welcome @DoctorEldritch and I hope my previous post was at least interesting.

Rock and Metal will always be a genre people frown upon and the subculture seems not to be so popular these days. Lately, I have read so many negative reviews about bands criticised for their lyrics and style becoming ridiculous.

The latest article I've read from a well-known magazine had the following to say:

Heavy metal music with aggressive themes has been identified as a potential risk factor for externalising behaviours (characterised by aggression and antisocial behaviour), internalising behaviours (characterised by depression and anxiety), and unhealthy behaviours such as substance use and self-harm.

The truth of the matter is other music genres also have the same effect on people.

In my case, everyone I know who listens to Metal, Goth and Rock music is the kindest, loving and calmest people I know.

It's opposite to what was written in the article.

@DoctorEldritch I like different kinds of music, but mostly pop, R&B, afrobeats, a bit of rock, even hip hop 😂 I feel like nowadays so many new names for music gernes are being created, that I lost track of what is what 🙈

@DracoTarot I think it is more about certain music putting you in a certain mood. Metal music is suggested to help deal with anxiety, for example. Sadly, metal got that bit of a bad rep when it was scrutinised during the obsession with the satanic panic of the 80s, and some still see it through that lense.

@DoctorEldritch Yeah!! People will continue scrutinising and even if they can't find any proof of such an accusation, they will make things up to prove a point.

They even did it with Jazz and Blues music. Most of the Blues artists sold their souls to the Devil apparently.

I want to know who has seen those contracts and whose fault they are kept in. LOL!!

@DracoTarot I'd say it is a tad both less and more complicated than that. One of the driving forces behind any fad is that it sells. Books, tabloids, movies, etc. Scrutinising something these days in itself has become a form of sellable entertainment. I'd say this may be more what this is about rather than scrutiny for ideological reasons.

But hey, we can not mind all that and just enjoy the music.

@DoctorEldritch I guess there's nothing wrong with it if it's good for marketing, attracts attention, and helps the artist in some way.

@DracoTarot There is no such thing as bad PR, eh? 😉

Still, I wish it did not make its way into mass media that much. Like that new "Hysteria!" series that will come out on the 18th of October:

It deals with the whole satan panic phenomenon (hence the name 😅) but may be doing it in a bit "on-the-nose" way...

@DoctorEldritch I'm definitely going to watch this LOL! I didn't even know about the series. Who knows, in the end, Hysteria may become as popular as Supernatural or Stranger Things.
