When it comes to horror, do you like watching or playing?

@DoctorEldritch I will be busy on Halloween. I already have a few bookings ahead of me, and I had a bit of time on my hands to watch Beetlejuice.

Once again, I am disappointed. I expected so much more. The movie didn't captivate me at all. To be honest, Beetlejuice sucked.

I think it is also about a person's mindset. For me, movies, novels, and series focusing on monsters, creatures and the paranormal are under the horror genre.

Suspense and thriller genres are a bit more tricky. Sometimes they are gory and sometimes not.

For example, Terrifier is a hardcore slasher movie and most definitely a gorefest. Still, the movie is mentioned everywhere in articles as a horror film.

@DracoTarot It is good to keep busy. If nothing else, it sure beats the alternative 😅

I did not think Beetlejuice 2 was great, but it was rather meh. Too many plotlines squeezed in, and those plots about the undead actor/cop and his (ex?)wife do not bring anything to the story at all. Seems like they are there to claim that stars like Bellucci and Dafoe were there. And I am not alone in thinking that:

But the effects that are famously natural and not digital were decent.

Hmm, I am not sure. Lockwood & Co. is all about ghosts, but I would not put it anywhere near horror. Maybe it is more the intention that rules everything: if the intent of the film is to scare, then it is horror even if it tries to scare you with puppies and rainbows. But it needs to mean it, if it pretends to scare, then it's a parody instead and more of a comedy...

Hmm, about Terrifier, maybe it comes down to common things people are afraid of? Have you watched Chainsaw Man ( @j7schultz, @GoLLuM13 or @AmrAli1 might have)? It touches on the concept of collective fear. And because gore is something many people find frightful, it is natural for gorefests to be put in a horror pile, maybe.

@GoLLuM13 It is not for everyone, true. I watched it but did not like it. It was ok if you like the genre, but that's about it.

@j7schultz Depends. It is not bad, but you need to like the whole genre. To be honest, it is rather dark and dirty theme-wise (adult jokes, sexual themes, all that). It is good if you like that, but for something more wholesome best to look elsewhere. Like in Demon Slayer.
