    Hello and good day!

    • Model: Legion 5 Pro-16ITH6H Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 82JD
    • Issue: Black screen on startup Description: Laptop is charging, and can run on battery. When I hit the Power Button, the fans sometimes spin for a second or two, the keybord lights up, but the screen does not turn on. Spamming the F2, F9 and F12 keys doesn't work. I can change the keyboard lights (Fn + Space) and light up the back logo (Fn + L). If the laptop is kept running for a bit, the fans will spin for a few seconds, and heat can be felt on the processor.
    • Occurence: I have started to witness this issue in may of this year, it has been happening almost once a month. I suspect it has something to do with power changes (usually happens after plugging it in another socket). So far, every month I've had this issue, I repeated some steps to make it back to alive, and it went back to working until it repeated the cycle. I could turn it off and reboot it without any issue. However this time, I got it back to a working state twice recently and rebooting once (each time) has made the issue come back instantly. It is also harder and longer to get it back on every new occurence, it went from an hour to now almost 48h.
    • What I've tried: To get it back, I repeated multiple steps a lot of times but it seems to be the rebooting X amount of times while hitting F2 to enter the BIOS that works. I have done so far:
      • Unplugged the charger and all peripherals, held the Power Button for 60s, left it for a minute, plugged the charger back in, booted it while spamming the F2 key
      • Held the power button and the F2 key at the same time
      • Switched the memory sticks
      • Removed the SSD
      • Disconnected both the battery and the CMOS battery, left it for a few minutes, booted it while plugged in and both batteries disconnected

Would anyone have any idea of something I could try?

Hi @hagenth — sounds like a BIOS or power issue. Try these steps:

    1. External monitor – check if display works there (may be internal screen issue).
    2. BIOS recovery – create a recovery USB from Lenovo’s site, plug in, hold Fn + R, and power on to reflash.
    3. Full power reset – disconnect battery and CMOS, hold Power 2 min, reconnect one RAM stick, try booting.
    4. Disable Hybrid Mode if you can reach BIOS (GPU switching can hang startup).
    5. Test a different charger/socket to rule out grounding issues.
If still no boot, likely motherboard or EC fault — contact Lenovo support for repair.

Hello all! @Madeline1 I had tried all these, none worked, seemed like the issue was deeper.
@scottyb94 I regret to inform you that I had to send my laptop back for repairs, and they told me that all they did was flashing the BIOS. It's a common issue on these machines which usually happens near the end of warranty, which makes it even more infuriating.
