@DracoTarot I tried the GoodDoctor, but I only watched one season of that, same with House MD. It's just that dramas are not really my thing, I prefer either sitcoms or sci-fi/fantasy. But to each their own. On a related note, have you heard about The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy?

It is not the best in the sense that it almost has no deep themes like other animated series we talked about in another thread, this is more of an average sitcom, but if you like a hospital theme, you may enjoy it.

@DoctorEldritch I enjoyed all the nonsense and drama. 😂

Sitcoms on the other hand became a bit repetitive for me and it felt if everyone who produced sitcoms couldn't come up with new ideas

I enjoy sci-fi and fantasy a lot. I'll watch a bit of The Best Hospital in the Galaxy and see what it's all about. 🙂

@DracoTarot I like drama as a secondary element, but when it is a cornerstone, I can't get invested all that much.

True, though that's been the case for a while, I think Aristotle may have said something about the finality of plots and original ideas. I find that a workaround is the setting: Scrubs for Hospital, Office for Office, Corporate for corporations, Parks & Recreation for local government, Veep for federal one, Ted Lasso for British sports, etc, etc. They may work, more or less, by making fun of industries that people can relate to. Now we have food service and The Bear, too. It is less about joke repeatability and more about changes in the setting that help them.

See what you think. If you end up liking it, you could try playing Galacticare alongside it 😉

@DoctorEldritch While we're on this topics have you seen the latest episodes of the Simpsons? They have killed off Marge. I was shocked when I saw the episode and wouldn't have imagined the producers would go that route. None of the characters have aged over the years and I thought they will never let one of them disappear from the show. I guess I was wrong.

I will have a look at Galacticare. Seems nice and something I'd like. 🙂

@DracoTarot To be honest, I do not watch The Simpsons, at some point it became too late to catch up. So I can't relate on a personal level, but from a showbiz perspective, I'd say it is nothing new? I read somewhere that some years back, Family Guy killed Brian only to resurrect him after a few episodes (don't watch that either, just remember a few newsflashes in feeds). So lets wait and see if she really will disappear from the show or not.

Maybe they are just taking precautions, seeing as how Julie Kavner is 74. In Archer, Jessica Walter, the voice of Malory Archer, passed away at the age of 80 before the series ended, so they made a graceful sendoff for her character in the show. Thankfully, Julie Kavner is still alive, but actively working with voice at 74 is taxing; maybe they want to lighten her load? But this is just me speculating.

I have not tried Galacticare yet, but the premise seems amusing enough.

@DoctorEldritch It would have been nice if the Simpsons could have aged over the years. Bart, Liza and Maggie all grown up then it would have made sense.

I don't think they will bring back Marge especially after the passing of Julie Kavner. There's a slight chance someone else could do the voiceover but I think it won't happen.

Some of the new episodes have hints and clues the Simpsons will come to an end altogether. Maybe Matt Groening have something else in mind.

@DracoTarot It would be interesting in principle, but The Simpsons were so long on air, I am not sure they expected to be running this long when they started, and then it was probably too late or too risky to change the concept. Then again, most long-running animated sitcoms do not age. South Park or Bob's Burgers don't either.

Wait, Julie Kavner is not dead, I think? Not the last time I checked, at least. I meant to say that she is elderly now, but she is still working.

You know better about that, I do not know enough about The Simpsons to catch those clues, I'm afraid. But I thought that Matt Groening created the idea of The Simpsons and some of the initial seasons, but he has not been involved in that show for years now. He had something else in mind indeed: Futurama and Disenchantment.

@DoctorEldritch Yeah it makes all sense. Maybe if they did agr the characters the shows would've been unpopular. The idea of keeping them young and the same works well.

I've heard she passed away. Maybe it was fake news. I will go have a look if I can find the article again.

Those hints and clues of ending the show is well hidden especially in the dialogue. For example Homer will mention he is tired and wants to hang up his coat.

Bart mentioned in one episode he is thinking of going away and leaving forever.

Moe's bar want to move to a different location far away from Springfield.

All those hints makes me feel they may follow through and end the Simpsons soon.

Funny Mat Groening is not part of the Simpsons but his name is still mentioned in the credits. Maybe he's still active in a way behind the scenes.

@DracoTarot There are a few examples where characters age, sometimes gradually, sometimes through time jumps, but those series are for a younger audience (eg, Steven Universe), so not really comparable to The Simpsons, I think.

I googled her when you mentioned it, and Wikipedia did not list her as having passed away there, they usually are quite fast with that. Maybe you'll find that article.

Ah, I see, yeah, those are some clues. We'll see what happens. But in truth, The Simpsons are a cultural phenomenon, but their time is running out, it is hard to come up with original ideas for so long. It may be time to gracefully send them off.

I heard a rumour that he did not like the direction of the show after he lost creative control of it and they turned it into an endless series machine, but maybe it was just a rumour, and he is actually involved in some capacity. Or it could be the Nightmare Before Christmas and Tim Burton situation.

@DoctorEldritch I guess it's better to keep it that way and not to age characters depending on the series. It could leave the series less appealing.

I think it was fake news. I searched for the article and it showed unavailable on Facebook. It was one of those articles someone posted who's looking for attention it seems.

By the look of things I think the time has come to gradually send them off. The producers definitely ran out of ideas and most of the content seem to be be repetitive. Maybe new Futurama will be the next Simpsons and next great thing.
