@miskkie How often do you save?

Actually, on that point, I thought since my reply, @Inyeon with saving compulsively, do you count the Quick Saving? I usually do that quite often, but it is not like going all the way through the menu as you would with manual saving, Quick is just pressing one button. Does that count for this?

Honestly, I’d say any kind of save counts. Personally, I’m the type who rushes to save the game after hitting any milestone — like beating a tough boss, clearing a tricky area, or anything like that.

@Inyeon Hmm, in that case, I want to add, I sometimes save for the reason of time saving more than anything else. For example, I remember, in Fallout 3/New Vegas/4 there are those long dialogues, especially when you meet some NPC for the first time, you get to go through those long dialogue trees to learn their lore and such. So it takes 5-10 minutes or real time to get through all those dialogue options and hear all that the developers prepared for you to hear. At that point, I would usually save because, should something happen, I don't want to have to listen and click through all that again. So here saving is more for convenience rather than safety net, if that makes sense?

@DoctorEldritch Hahaha, I’ve never heard of anyone saving right after a long dialogue. Wasn’t there an option to skip the cutscene or fast-forward somehow? Luckily, we’ve got autosave now. I’ve gotten so used to it that I don’t think I could go back to playing older games and remembering to save all the time.

@Inyeon In those games, there was a function to skip line by line, but that would end up with you having to click repeatedly for half a minute at a time, and if you're not careful, you'd end up selecting dialogue choices you did not mean to. It was easier to just save 😅

Autosave is certainly useful, though sometimes it can play tricks on you: you realise you made a bad choice somewhere far enough that autosave does not have it anymore, but also a while after your last manual save./ And then you're stuck in that weird dilemma of whether you want to spend a few more hours getting to the point where you are from your manual save, or live with your bad choice for the rest of the game, and this can be quite annoying if not frustrating. Manual saves for the win! 💾
