Hola jugones, ¿qué tal? Hoy vamos a darle un repaso a esas tecnologías que nos permiten jugar a todo lo que se nos antoje sin tener que hipotecar un riñón para comprar un PC de la NASA y que tan necesarias son para nuestras handhelds. Me refiero, por supuesto, a las tecnologías de reescalado de imágenes como DLSS, FSR y XeSS
¿Qué son el DLSS, FSR y XeSS?
Imagina que tu consola PC portátil o tu PC gaming no tienen la potencia suficiente para correr un juego con todos los ajustes en ultra. ¿Qué haces? En vez de rendirte, activas una de estas tecnologías. Básicamente, lo que hacen es renderizar el juego a una resolución más baja (1080p, 720p o, incluso, inferiores) y luego, gracias a la IA y ciertos algoritmos, reescalan la imagen a una resolución superior. El resultado es una imagen que se ve casi tan bien como si se hubiera renderizado a mayor resolución de forma nativa, ¡pero con un rendimiento muchísimo mejor!. Es cierto que según las condiciones del juego y el tipo de técnica utilizada, se puede apreciar cierto lag y falta nitidez, pero cada nueva versión va minimizando estos problemas
Es como si fueras un pintor: en vez de pintar cada detalle de un cuadro enorme, pintas una versión más pequeña y luego un robot súper inteligente lo agranda y lo perfecciona sin que se note la diferencia
Cada gran fabricante de gráficas ha apostado por su sistema:
DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) - El de NVIDIA
El DLSS es la tecnología de reescalado, para muchos, la más avanzada de las tres. Su nombre ya nos da una pista: "Deep Learning". Esto significa que utiliza la inteligencia artificial y se entrena constantemente para mejorar. Para funcionar, necesita de los núcleos Tensor, unos componentes específicos que solo se encuentran en las tarjetas gráficas de la serie RTX 2000 o superior. Requiere además que el juego esté preparado para poder utilizarlo
Ventajas:
Calidad de imagen superior: Al usar IA, el DLSS es capaz de generar una imagen reescalada que, en muchas ocasiones, es indistinguible de la nativa
Mejor rendimiento: El aumento de FPS es muy significativo
Inconvenientes:
Exclusivo de NVIDIA: Solo funciona con tarjetas RTX. Nada de AMD o Intel. (Aunque... hay mods que activan la compatibilidad de éste sistema con gráficas de la competencia o en juegos no compatibles oficialmente)
FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) - El de AMD
El FSR no usa IA, sino que se basa en un algoritmo especial para reescalar la imagen. La gran ventaja del FSR es que es de código abierto y no está atado a un hardware. Nota: a partir de la versión 4 ya empezará a requerir hardware específico para algunas funciones
Requisitos técnicos:
Cualquier tarjeta gráfica AMD, NVIDIA o Intel moderna. También el juego debe ser compatible con FSR
Ventajas:
Gran compatibilidad: Funciona en casi cualquier GPU
Buen aumento de rendimiento: Aunque no siempre iguala al DLSS en calidad, el aumento de FPS es muy bueno.
Código abierto: Permite a los desarrolladores implementarlo fácilmente en sus juegos
Inconvenientes:
Calidad de imagen: En algunas situaciones, la imagen reescalada puede mostrar artefactos o no tener la misma nitidez que el DLSS, pero esto ha mejorado mucho con las nuevas versiones
XeSS (Xe Super Sampling) - El de Intel
Al igual que el DLSS, utiliza inteligencia artificial, pero con una peculiaridad: puede funcionar tanto en su propio hardware (las GPU Arc) como en tarjetas de otros fabricantes gracias a sus instrucciones DP4a
Requisitos técnicos:
Tarjeta gráfica Intel Arc (para obtener un mejor rendimiento) o tarjetas gráficas NVIDIA y AMD (con soporte para DP4a).
Una vez mas, el juego debe ser compatible con XeSS
Ventajas:
Promete la calidad del DLSS: Al usar IA, la calidad de la imagen es muy alta.
Compatibilidad en otras GPU: Es una opción más para los jugadores que no tienen una tarjeta NVIDIA.
Inconvenientes:
Poca implementación: Aún no está tan extendido en los juegos como el DLSS o el FSR
¿Por qué son tan importantes para dispositivos como la Legion Go?
Aquí viene la parte jugosa del asunto. Las consolas portátiles como la Legion GO, la ROG Ally o la MSI Claw usan chips como el Z1 Extreme o (el Z2 Extreme próximamente), pero que, al fin y al cabo, son chips de bajo consumo. La pantalla de la Legion GO, por ejemplo, tiene una resolución de 2560x1600, ¡muy alta para un chip de este tipo!
Es aquí donde el reescalado se convierte en el mejor amigo del gamer
Mayor rendimiento: Activando reescalados, podemos duplicar o triplicar los FPS en muchos juegos. Esto significa pasar de jugar a 15 - 20 FPS a 40 - 60 FPS, haciendo que la experiencia sea mucho más fluida
Menor consumo: Al renderizar el juego a una resolución más baja, el chip trabaja menos, lo que se traduce en menos calor y, lo más importante, ¡más duración de batería!
Aprovechar la pantalla: En vez de reducir la resolución de la pantalla, que hace que la imagen se vea un poco borrosa, podemos usar el reescalado para mantener la resolución de la pantalla nativa y seguir disfrutando de una imagen nítida
En resumen, estas tecnologías no son solo un "extra", son casi una necesidad para sacarle todo el partido a tu consola PC portátil
¡Así que ya lo sabes! Si tienes una de estas maravillas, no te olvides de buscar la opción de reescalado en tus juegos. ¡Tu batería y tus ojos te lo agradecerán!
Mucha IA, poca optimizacion, vagueza, poco formato y adecuacion a los estandares actuales...
Vamos, que al final a este paso cada vez las cosas seran de menor calidad :/.
Si fuera bien usada entonces veria como menos es mas, enfocandose en optimizar y hacerlo lo mejor posible pero luego reescalando ese contenido de calidad :).
Pero por ahora viendo los juegos de Unreal que piden mas de lo que necesitan, la falta de optimizaciones, el mal uso de graficos antiguos procesados por IA pero sin un seguimiento profesional pues... no esta dando especialmente buen resultado en muchos casos.
Aun asi, en consolas se usa mas que a menudo no siendo habitual que un juego sea 4K nativo sino normalmente escalado y precisamente la Nintendo Switch 2 se enfoca precisamente en ello mas que ninguna debido precisamente al uso de Nvidia :).
@Blackgem tienes toda la razón en cuanto a la falta de optimización. Las herramientas están ahí, otra cosa es que les den un buen uso 😉.
En mi opinión, tanto la Switch 2 como las handhelds actuales y futuras dependerán de los reescalados para sobrevivir y las consolas 'de nueva generación' seguirán tirando de ellos para poder seguir 'dando duros a 4 pesetas'
Menos mal que tengo buen catalogo de Steam y GoG por si amenazara por irse todo a pique... mientras me den unas semanas de margen... me compraría unos discos duros para almacenar todo instalador y juego offline posible XD.
Si buscamos algo positivo... es que los juegos envejecerán mejor, lo que hoy día requiere dlss si o si, si hicieron adecuadamente pack de texturas 4K significara que en un futuro que pueda jugarse nativo no perderá tanta calidad. De igual manera que juegos de la Switch 1 jugados en emulador obtienen una gran mejora grafica por ejemplo, y con la Switch 2 posiblemente pasaria igual.
Has puesto un buen ejemplo con los juegos de switch 1 y sus packs de texturas. También hay muchos juegos con packs de texturas que mejoran su calidad visual, precisamente es ésto último lo que me hace preferir tener memoria de sobra para cargar texturas de la mejor calidad posible

Precisamente muchos remaster actuales son texturas nuevas por IA, y motores nuevos, y bien que me alegro, si consiguen un equilibrio y estandarización para todos los juegos permitieran ello a 30 años vista evitaría perderse muchas joyas de la industria con el paso de los años.
Aunque fuera una herramienta de terceros que te permitiera importar texturas actuales y motores antiguos y migrarlos en un nuevo motor aun sin tener acceso manual a los archivos... molaria eso la verdad.
Viendo lo bien que lo hacen por software los emuladores de PSP y otras consolas de la gran N. Veo más que factible que acabe apareciendo algo así en PC, puede que cargando módulos, en los que cada módulo añada compatibilidad con determinado motor gráfico

Por cierto ayer mismo he leido que van a desbloquear para las Rog Ally nuevas con futuras actualizaciones que su NPU integrada (procesador para IA) se encargue precisamente de estos temas de reescalados. Y para futuras consolas pues tendran tambien hardware dedicado para ello. Al ser chips especificos para esa tarea dejara el chip grafico libre para darle esa potencia extra que necesitan.
Se supone que es una de las mejoras estrella del nuevo windows, una especie de sistema de reescalados integrado a nivel de sistema operativo. Mi gran duda es si todos los Z2 Extreme vendrán con esa NPU habilitada o será algo exclusivo de las firmadas por xbox

Following termination, Lenovo may retain your Content as permitted by applicable law for backup, archival, or audit purposes. Indemnification

Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain.
Entire Agreement; Severability
These Terms, together with Lenovo’s Data Privacy Policy and any amendments and any additional agreements you may enter into with Lenovo in connection with the Platform, shall constitute the entire agreement between you and Lenovo concerning the Platform. If any provision of these Terms is deemed invalid, then that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions of these Terms will remain in full force and effect.
Limitations of Liability
Neither Lenovo nor its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, third party content providers, sponsors, or licensors warrant that the Site will be continuous, uninterrupted or error-free. THE PLATFORM, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, ITS CONTENT, IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS.
