    Hello Legion Gamers!

After The Indie Game Awards 2025 were revealed last week, The Game Awards 2025 follows suit, and now we know all the nominations this year. Here is the reveal video:

This year, the fight for the Game Of The Year title promises to be exciting, as there are strong candidates contesting. Here is a full list of them:

And GOTY is not the only nomination for all of these games, each of them has several nominations in different categories:

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 got most nominations, 12 of them, which the developers were very happy about:

The award ceremony will take place on the 12th of December. Interesting how The Indie Game Awards 2025 revealed their nominees earlier, but their award show is later. Who do you think will win? Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a popular choice, but it will face Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, and that can be tough. Not to mention one of the other games may yet prove to be a black horse.

How many of those games have you played? I have to confess, I only played one, Hades II. But both Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are on my list, I was just waiting for all DLCs to come out for KCD:2, and I am not sure if my hardware can run CO:E 33 well. Same as with The Indie Game Awards 2025, I made a little poll below to get a better idea of who is a favourite for the win here.

So the main question is: who do you think should win? Be sure to vote, maybe your voice is the one that tips the scale!

Personally, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It won't win tho.

Guessing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 gets it?

@miskkie I am not sure, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has so many nominations it could win, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 does not have nearly as many. They may give GOTY to it, and give Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a bunch of other prizes, maybe?

At least Swen Vincke likes the diversity this year:

@ZaidH do you think Death Stranding 2: On the Beach deserves the title more than the others in the list?

@miskkie Here is a rumour that Hades II may get it.

It has to do with Metacritic ratings. Hades II has a higher score than Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, they have 95 vs 92. And if you follow the trend of the last 5 years, then the Game Of The Year award always goes to the game with a higher Metacritic score (in the year of its release). That somehow just happens 🤨 So if this were to repeat this year again, then Hades II may take the prize.

Though, maybe if so, it will get Indie GOTY instead. Or not. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also competes for the Indie GOTY title, so it's anyone's guess. We'll have to wait and see.

Oh that's curious, kinda makes sense I suppose.

@miskkie On the one hand, it does, but on the other hand, it may look a little biased. Just call it "Metacritic's Choice" award if you follow the Metacritic score so closely. Makes me wonder, though, if the panel of experts/critics on Metacritic is similar to the panel on TGA. Could be why, if so.

At least Geoff Keighley is happy with the vote rate, even if it was so high that it made the site to lag 😅

I know the Metacritic scores and the gaming journalists’ committee play a large role in determining GOTY (this is how RDR2 was robbed and God of War won 😭), but I think the Player’s Choice category also factors heavily into the final decision. Assuming that’s the case, I feel like Expedition 33 and Silksong are the frontrunners. I haven’t played DS2 and honestly haven’t seen much buzz about it online, aside from people calling it one of the best graphical showcases on PS5.

With Silksong, even though it’s heavily praised, there’s still that negative side of unfair difficulty and wonky game balancing attached to it. So if I were a betting man, I’d put my money on Expedition 33 (also because it’s the only game I’ve played out of all the nominees 😆). Also, I've a feeling that the DLC for E33 will either be shown heavily or shadow dropped before TGA, which will bring E33 into the gaming zeitgeist again.

@DoctorEldritch Which game is your personal GOTY pick?

@ZaidH Well then, we shall see if it's Metacritic or Player’s Choice that wins the tug-of-war this time around 😉

Oh, I thought you might have played Death Stranding 2 by now. I want to try the first one soon. Did you see their exoskeleton collab, at least?

I have not tried E33 yet, so it is hard for me to comment on that one. How do you know there will be a DLC? Have they announced one?

GOTY is a tricky question. My problem is, I have not played most of the candidates because most of them still have DLCs planned, and those I have played, like Hades 2, I liked, but do not think they are "GOTY" level better than most. I'll keep thinking and get back to you on that 😅
