@DoctorEldritch and @ZaidH a bit of an update: TGA 2025 released Round 1 Nominees for Players Voice Award:

Unlike the other nominations, the winner here is chosen exclusively by the audience (without the influence of journalists or experts).

The first round has 30 nominees for this award, and anyone can vote for up to 10 of them from the list. Then, the top 10 ones will advance to the second round, voting for that will start on the 4t of December. Then, 5 of those will advance to round 3, and voting will start on the 8th of December. And then the voting for the winner will commence, and it will be announced at The Game Awards ceremony on the night of 12 December. That's a lot of voting 😅

If you'd like to vote, you can do it here. Expedition 33 is this year's favourite, but competition is strong: Dispatch, Hades 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, among others. One of them may yet snatch victory in this category from Expedition 33 (and, let's be fair, Expedition 33 will likely get many other rewards).

Are you going to vote for anyone?

@DoctorEldritch I’m waiting for Death Stranding 2 to go on sale before snagging it 😅 Also, the first Death Stranding received a lot of QoL updates after its initial release, so chances are the same will happen with DS2. And no, I wasn’t aware of the exoskeleton!

You now know what to pack for your next hiking trip 😆

And yep, the free DLC for E33 was announced some time back. It adds new areas + bosses.

GOTY talks aside, how did you like Hades 2? Do you think it’s a substantial upgrade over the first Hades? I really enjoyed the first one, but I don’t know… I just don’t have any particular desire to play Hades 2 yet based on what I’ve seen.

Gonna go vote for Expedition 33 again 🫡

@miskkie I am torn between KC: D2 and Dispatch. I have not tried KC: D2 yet, but I liked the first one, and by all accounts second one is good, and I like the studio, so I'd want to vote for it. But this weekend, I finished one run of Dispatch, and I like it very much, but I got annoyed by the lack of some quality-of-life functions. So now I am stuck, nd time is running out...

@ZaidH That's probably a good idea. Although the first DS was more of an experiment, gameplay-wise, it has not been done before, so there was a lot to learn along the way there and a lot of QoL ideas after release. Now it is more polished, so chances are DS2 will build on that foundation and not need that many QoL improvements anymore.

Exoskeleton is certainly tempting, but it costs a fortune. You can have a whole 2-week hiking trip for as much as it costs 😅

Ah, good to know, then I will wait before trying Expedition 33, for all the DLCs to come out.

To be honest, I am not sure, it depends on what you liked about Hades. To me, Hades was a personal story about a dysfunctional family with a focus on parent-child relationships, all wrapped in Greek mythology. It was relatable, and it worked on that level. Hades 2 is a step-up in most gameplay elements: there are more "biomes " (twice as many), bosses and characters. Gameplay-wise, Hades fighting felt more dynamic, but Hades 2 is more polished.

But! With all that, Hades 2 switched the story focus from a personal family story to the epic drama with the fate of the world on the line. And that, to me, strangely, felt like cheapening the whole thing. It feels less personal, and the focus is not on the child-parent relationship and rebellion anymore, but on fulfilling destiny and saving the world. So story-wise (and for rogue-like such as this, a story hook is paramount), Hades was stronger, I think. And then there was that ending in Hades 2 that was also quite divisive, but I will not go into that because spoilers.

Still, to answer your question, I'd have to ask what was it that you liked most about the first Hades?

Ah, Kingdom Come: Deliverance did not make the final list, @miskkie. Unfortunately. What will you vote for now? @ZaidH can vote for Expedition 33 again. Hades 2 did not make the list either. I think I'll vote for Dispatch now as it is the only game in the list that I tried (and finished), and I enjoyed it well enough.
