Recent reports suggest that the consumer hardware market may be heading into a new wave of price increases, and this time graphics cards (GPUs) could be next. In recent months, RAM and SSD prices have already seen notable rises, and the growing demand for AI components is putting additional pressure on the market.

Companies like Micron are increasingly focusing on meeting the high demand from AI applications, which could leave regular consumers at a disadvantage, especially as chip manufacturers prioritize commercial clients with higher profit margins. This shift has already caused some storage units to jump by up to 60%, significant increases in DDR5 prices, and LPDDR5X prices are expected to rise further in 2026.

Amid this scenario, reports warn that GPUs may be the next target. AMD is reportedly planning to raise prices on 8GB and 16GB cards due to rising GDDR6 costs, while NVIDIA has reportedly stopped supplying some VRAM shipments to its partners. With no new generations expected soon—the next NVIDIA generation may not arrive until mid-2026, and AMD’s RDNA 5 could be delayed until 2027—this may be the last chance to get a reasonably priced graphics card.
Experts recommend choosing a card with at least 12GB of VRAM to ensure longer performance lifespan before the AI boom drives prices even higher.
Of course, these are just predictions. How do you think this will affect your next GPU purchase? Share your thoughts!

I'm sure the memory cost hikes might get to GPUs as well. Hopefully this won't last that long.

To be honest, I don't even want to think about it. Every year I am planning to upgrade, and every year the target moves...

Currently it is very hard to buy anything below an Arc B580 and RX 9060 XT 16GB. The B580 GPUs are typically well-priced, they are good value.

I don't like that home computing is being eroded by these AI developments.

unfortunately it will rise due to memory module shortage and the price increase 🥲
