Still more and more studio closures make for depressing reading. Is one answer a move away from epic big-budget blockbusters towards more small scale, imaginative and fun games? The runaway success of things like power-washing, grass-cutting etc games may point that way. Who would have thought it, but what success stories. Smaller teams, smaller budgets, is it one way of moving away from big corporate lay-offs which are becoming so prevalent?
The problem is that the game companies have been prioritizing virtue signalling to a "modern audience" while insulting and alienating their established customer base with crap they don't want. Then when the "modern audience", who probably never has and never will buy their products, doesn't show up at launch the game publishers resort to blaming their already driven away once loyal customers.
People use games as an escape from every day life and don't want to pay $70 to be lectured on modern day social issues.
