We’ve been asking for it, waiting for it, longing for it. Now it’s finally coming.
Diablo 2 Remastered, ladies and gentlemen. Otherwise known as Resurrected. While we await the arrival of Diablo IV and all the exciting visuals and meaty combat its recent trailers promise, we’ll be diving into the classic adventures of the second game in the series, complete with enhanced visuals, several quality-of-life updates, and the option to switch back to the original visuals anytime we like.
Diablo 2: Resurrected was revealed back at BlizzCon last month, and has since been confirmed to be its own title, and not a replacement of the original game, like how Warcraft 3’s remaster was. It will be a completely separate game and will support mods, being based on the current live version of traditional Diablo 2.
Principal Designer Rob Gallerani in a
explained:“We wanted to focus on nailing the foundation of the authentic experience. We didn't want to start balancing it out to something else, because if we gave players this game that they remembered but things felt differently because we balanced them or rebalanced them, it's too many variables. So right now we're focused on pretty much what's live today.”
Due later this year, the game will cost around $40, and will release across all modern platforms with cross-play (in case you want to play Diablo 2 on every platform you own, which is understandable). When it comes to mods, I’m curious to know if that means mods for the original game will work on the remaster; after all, if it’s based on the old version, perhaps the same code applies?
I guess we’ll find out later this year! So which Diablo game are you most looking forward to releasing? Let us know what you’re hoping to see from them in the comments!
