Were you satisfied or disappointed with year one of the Switch 2?

Discussion

How do you think year one went? What were you disappointed about? What were you satisfied about? I really think handheld boost mode knocked it out the park.

Were you disappointed with no mainline blockbusters like Mario or Zelda? Were you satisfied with Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokemon and Switch 2 upgrades for Switch 1 games?

Nintendo 64, I enjoy that console.

For me as well. Only PS2 - I still only use this!

My kids are anxiously waiting for this game.

I was able to snag a copy from Amazon for $39.99. They already had it on sale for $49.99 , but had a Prime deal for $10 of $20+ purchase.

I've been liking all these sub $50 deals on Switch 2 games

New Star Fox for Switch 2 worth it?

Discussion

Previews are in for Star Fox - is it going to be worth it?

Just saw that a bunch of previews dropped for the new Star Fox and I wanted to get a sense for the hype amongst the community. It is just a nostalgia grab with some updated graphics or is there more to it? Is the lack of 4 player local split screen a deal breaker?

Would love to hear from someone who's definitely excited for it

and someone who definitely isn't.

Thanks!

Probably a nostalgia grab -- they already know people are familiar with the IP so there's less risk and can focus on improving game play and graphics

I'm excited for it. I usually wait until there are 5 games I want to play before I buy a console. Star Fox is number 3 and I'm getting a Switch 2 in a few days so I'm ready for it.

It's a remake and I would prefer a game with a new story but so many people haven't played the original that I don't mind that much.

I see Bethesda launching Oblivion on the Switch 2, of course now that they have another... modernish ES game it'll probably be coming to everything including toasters before long.

Are you buying a Switch 2 before the price increase?

Discussion

I went ahead and bought one last week. I wanted to wait to see if a OLED model would come out but the coming price increase got me a little more motivated. After seeing the steam deck price increase, I don't see things getting better anytime soon. And I don't want to spend $500+ on a Nintendo console.

I did get a rewards deal so I got it below the $450 retail price. I was also able to gets some good deals on Metroid 4, Donkey Kong Bananza,Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment all under $40 each for physical.

So are you buying a Switch 2 before the price increase?

No because they haven't been consumer friendly and there hasn't been enough exclusives.

No, because there aren't enough Switch 2 exclusives to justify buying the console.

Has anyone here played Mario Tennis Fever? 🎾

Discussion

I’ve been thinking about picking it up, but I’m not sure if it’s actually worth the money. How’s the gameplay? Is it fun long-term or does it get repetitive pretty quickly?

Would love to hear your opinions before I buy it!

TMR modules in the Switch 2 Joycons! (and other mods...)

Blog/Article

The biggest bug bear with a lot of controllers in general and Joycons are no exception, is drift.
Stock sticks in the Switch had a nasty reputation for this and a lot of enthusiasts complained that the S2 never got TMR upgrades and Nintendo chose to stick with potentiometers.

As regulars here know... I never leave things alone.. I just can't help but tinker. A lot of searching different market places and I stumbled upon Favor Union on Alibaba. These guys make some great stuff, they're the OEM provider of Sony controllers modules and offer TMR upgrades as I have ordered them before. Well, now they have 3 weeks since released the Switch 2 TMR modules!

What's the difference you ask?
Potentiometers work via variable resistance on a carbon pad, basically a metal contact slides up and down the carbon the different readings from positions tell the controller how to behave. This is purely mechanical, so those carbon pads wear over time and drift occurs.
TMRs have a very sensitive sensor and a magnet, the sensor picks up the magnets field with great accuracy and gives its signal depending where the magnet is. This is a small electromagnetic field and a sensor, aside the stick mechanism itself, this is none contact wizardry and the sensor can be recalibrated indefinitely, so you should first never get drift and if you do it's like from damage to the module and mechanism of the stick rather than a misread due to sensor fault.

Here's a picture of both units I tore down during my swap.

The top is the TMR, you'll notice a little black sensor on the flex PCB and a little silver magnet on the plastic slide on the bottom of the other half to the right of it. Bottom PCB has black carbon pads you can see, and just little metal prongs that come into contact with the carbon.

Anyhow I did a shell swap on my Joycons and dropped these in for testing.

Turned out quite nicely, tests have been great, love the feel of the TMRs, they're a hair firmer than OEM but I like the more deliberate feel of them. I swapped to a black translucent shell on the JCs, Though I have found atomic purple accent rings, rails and buttons so I think I may be doing more visual modifications soon...

The link to the TMRs should anyone be interested in fitting their own:
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/NS2-JoyCon-Replacement-Thumbstick-TMR-Red_10000041041946.html
You have to order each side or colour as it is listed.
Tronicsfix has a great teardown vid of these Joycons, it does require some specific tools an a careful hand though.

Any questions, please feel free to ask!

Looking forward to playing this on Nintendo Switch 2 would be awesome

That's a really cool idea. Always had trouble with drift on the original Switch. Never even crossed my mind to do this. Might have to when I get a Switch 2.

I would love to see the first two NES games to get a modern remake, especially Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Maybe for the 50th anniversary Nintendo will do something special.

Ocarina of time those dungeons were some of the best in the series. Twilight princess as that was also a really fun title to play.

Wii U and the Switch

Discussion

I recently got a Wii U to set up for my nephews to play when they come over. I bought a bulk lot of 16 games for a steal. After looking into the Wii U games list, I realized there are a ton of titles they reused for the Switch. I can't say I ever played on one before I got this, but wow, the number of games that were released for it, then re-released for Switch, is crazy. Also, the Wii U and games are actually pretty fun and unique. Some are a pain, though, because it relies on using the tablet to control certain aspects, but you need to be looking at the main (TV) screen.

I recommend Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It has local co-op, it’s very kid-friendly, and it encourages exploration and collecting items.

A - R

For a child, Kirby Star Allies would be better than Forgotten Land. Theres some more adult themes in terms of loss and sorrow etc in Forgotten Land you really dont need to have to explain that to them just yet.

Yooka-Laylee had issues the first time around. But they fixed it, I think. I'm not really sure.

chris h

My first thought was Cyberpunk, but that's not one of their properties. I looked through them, but don't know enough about their library or history, but it has to be something that failed, something that underperformed, didn't meet the expectations or hype, but still worked okay. I don't see anything that's obviously about flying or cloudy places and riddles are often misleading. Maybe a hint, but I wouldn't focus on that.

I agree with GoldLimit93 that Yooka-Laylee is the best guess. Faulty game with clouds.

Do you think the Nintendo Switch 2 version will be worth it or will it be subpar to the PS5 and XSX?

Stardom Plays

It will be significantly scaled down

Ernst F

Switch 2 is always a tradeoff, you lose performance for the ability to go out and about with it. So it’ll be subpar in comparison, more specifically Switch 2 runs a mere RTX 3050 laptop card while the base PS5 has a desktop RX6700 (equivalent to almost a RTX 3060ti raw performance). Up to you if you’re someone that likes to game in bed or elsewhere for example.

Any personal thoughts/reviews for new Indiana Jones on Switch 2?

Discussion

Looking for feedback from community members - not YouTube reviews

Hey Everyone - The new Indiana Jones and the Great Circle sounds great for the Switch 2 but before I went for it I thought I'd ask if anyone in the community had any personal thoughts/feedback for me before I do?

From what I understand the gameplay and story are great but I'm curious how it all shakes out on the Switch 2 hardware?

As always, many thanks in advance!

Evan Sparks

I played it on PC when it first came out. As a 40-year-old lifelong gamer, it certainly takes a lot for me to say "Wow this game is amazing!", and I can certainly say that about this one. Machine Games did a wonderful job. I hope it's successful enough that they either do a sequel or pick up another franchise to do something like this with.

If you keep paying for them, that proves they are the right price. It will only get higher.

Find your limit before they do. Think of a price ($120?) where you will absolutely not buy GTA7 or RDR3. Buying used discs is an option. Or you can buy game A for full price, friend buys game B. When you beat it and get bored, trade. I think more people will have to start sharing.

Sign..., the price have increased due to high demand and high inflation....It's similar to memory that price increased more than twice. The issue is AI, that big companies need more memories, storages, and others that caused it.

Glad to see it on any🙂 platform

¿Es Nintendo el paladín del juego físico?

Blog/Article

Mouse P.I. For Hire - How is performance on Switch 2?

Discussion

Does anybody have experience with how Mouse P.I. for Hire runs on Switch 2? Most of the reviews online are either for the other platforms or Nintendo Specific Reviewers (who I feel can be biased out of necessity). Reddit has a lot of complaining about Performance mode dropping frames regularly and Quality mode just being "OK". Curious to hear if anyone here has any hands on experience? I am drawn to the Switch 2 Version simply for the whole game being on the cart. I was looking at getting the Physical Xbox version from the EU - but Xbox is typically bad about putting the actual game on the discs (and I can't find any info if that is the case for this release).

Increased my Switch Ethernet speed!

  • Change MTU Settings: The default is 1400, but increasing to 1500 (or sometimes 1490–1600) can improve performance.

  • Use High-Quality Cables: Use a Cat6 (or Cat5e) cable.

  • Direct Connection: Plug the ethernet cable directly into your router rather than through a switch, extender, or powerline adapter.

  • Use USB 3.0 Port: If using a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, ensure it is plugged into the USB 3.0 port inside the back cover of the dock, not the USB 2.0 ports on the side.

  • Update DNS: Manually set DNS to faster servers in the network settings, such as Google (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

  • Restart Network: Power cycle your modem and router.
