    There's nothing wrong with that if you can still find things, he can't always because there's application icons mixed in with files. I prefer to keep it minimal or even turn them off but everyone has different work flow so the freedom to choose is good. Some alternative desktop environments don't allow icons on the desktop or are very restrictive about what can be added

    I am also one for many shortcut icons on the desktop. Now I know that might seem somewhat dated, but...

    Er, no that's it really. I STAND BY MY ICONS!
