Horror Indie Games Recommendation

What are some of indie horror games you guys played and would recommend to others?

It doesn't have to be something massively popular, I'm just looking for something that's interesting and impressive.

For example, I played Yomawari and it was a game that's more of cute side than scary but I still enjoyed it!

PC, console, mobile, it doesn't matter

  • Monstrum - I put a bunch of hours into it and enjoyed it quite a bit, though there is a learning curve to the nuances of the game. It's a semi-procedurally-generated first-person survival horror game where you are being stalked by a monster on a derelict cargo ship and have to find a means to escape. It's more of a stealth and evasion game while searching to find the items you need to achieve your goal. It has a decent amount of replayability to a point.

Project Zomboid - An absolutely fantastic zombie apocalypse themed gem in the survival game genre. It's played from an overhead isometric viewpoint and the graphics probably won't blow anyone away but the gameplay is incredibly deep with it's various systems and mechanics and I found it very compelling trying to survive in the huge open world. It's not really scary so much as there is a sense of tension and dread. It's what I would consider a true survival game, not just survival horror.

Oxenfree - This one is a bit different. It's more of a narrative-focused adventure where your choices determine the path the story takes and it has excellent writing and voice acting. Not really scary, it's more creepy and some moments of suspense.

2Dark - Only played a little bit of this one (need to get back to it) but it seemed very interesting. It's a 2D top-down twin-stick horror adventure with some pretty dark themes involving things like kidnapped children.
