Legion Go Update 01.26.2024

Hi All,

Don't have too much time (or content) for a super robust update this week but in the interest of continuing the communication cadence I'll share a few things.

Legion Space Update (tentatively v1.0.2.6)

Still on track to release by end of next week unless any major issues/flaws discovered during beta testing.

BIOS v29

Updated BIOS has been officially released, and can be downloaded here: Lenovo Support US

Key updates:

  • Based on v28 and include everything v28 delivered
  • Added Auto VRAM (UMA Buffer) selection
  • Optimization of custom fan table interface for future use by Legion Space (nothing user-accessible at the moment, needs the Space Update)
  • Added support for Charge Limiting (by Legion Space, later, not user accessible yet)
  • Various security improvements and bug fixes

Other Driver Updates

Note: recommend installing the v29 BIOS update first for a smoother install experience for the below updated drivers.

Alternatively you can wait until the release of the next Legion Space software which should include the ability to update these for you rather than you doing it manually.

Beta Realtek SD reader Driver

Offering up an updated Realtek SD reader driver to see if it can help alleviate performance issues some of you are experiencing.  Don't have high hopes for this to resolve it but some people have seen improvements so looking to understand if this can help others as we continue to root cause the issue.  Info can be found here: Legion Go RealTek Card Reader Beta Driver 10.0.22631.21370_20231124_WHQL

We are aware that this driver is out of Beta from AMD and looking at how to properly implement on the Go.  I have heard from those who have installed/sideloaded unsupported drivers in an attempt to get access to this feature that while it works sometimes, there are several other issues introduced by the installation of the driver (performance issues, potrait mode issues, lower performance in some cases, etc.).  Would strongly recommend waiting for an official implementation of this as I've also heard it can be a bit difficult to uninstall/roll back.

Thanks as always for the continued support.

  • Nice, can't wait for that space update! Is there going to be a beta for 1.0.26? If not no big deal. It's only a week out hopefully.

  • Do you by chance have any additional information on the fan whine fix and what owners might be able to do for resolution?

  • Hi  , thanks for the update. I want to raise RSR issue that seems not addressed and I can't fix since the first vga driver update. If you use RSR, sometimes the software upscale with wrong orientation, i.e upscaling from 1280x800 to 1600x2560. I also didn't feel the difference in sharpness if it work that way. And also it got addition problem that it can't upscale to 1200p since it detect that the width (1280) is lower than the height (1200). I know that you guys are working hard, really appreciate if you and the team could look into this. I'm sorry that I keep repeatedly posting same comment but as informed by  , this channel is the only official community channel to get support and I yet to see that this issue were noticed.

  • Is there any downside to enabling Auto VRAM? As in, does it work reliably and should be the default? Or does it have big caveats? Thx!

  • Use 6.GB VRAM as default, because a bunch of games have issues with Auto.

If you sometime encounter a game that crashes or something, try Auto VRAM as it often fixes those games.

This is not a Legion Go thing as it also affects Rog Ally. It's because a lot of games don't support Auto VRAM on APU's.

  • Hoping the next space update gets keyboard mapping for buttons. This is a super nice feature to have.

  • Thanks for the update! Appreciate the tip to update the BIOS before drivers.

  • Have you tried the "duct tape" trick ? IMO it's better to use something like "3M TM Scotch TM tape" instead of the real duct tape - it have less sticky adhesive. I ended up with both - vertical and small horizontal, patches - vertical to suppress main noise, and horizontal - to clean up some residuals.

  • Nice to know! Thanks for the info! I'll experiment with it myself. Let's Goo! We finally are in the weekend! It's GO experiment time! WinkSmileyThumbsup

Thanks a lot for this additional infos, and especially for pointing to the new drivers besides the BIOS, otherwise I would have missed those WinkThumbsup

Also about letting us know to install the BIOS Update (which I have already installed) first, before the others, agree here with

Still can't wait for the LegionSpace update! SmileySmileySmiley
