Legion Go Update 02.16.2024

Hi Everyone,

Just a few updates/comments today.

BIOS

I did put out a new BIOS from the engineering team this week that aims to address the TDP disconnect between Space and the APU, so if you're interested in reading about that and getting more information you can…

This is just a 'quick fix' for now, if you don't care about custom TDP and are fine with the presets you can wait for an official update that is now released through Space.

SD Reader Stutter

Reminder that there is an updated Beta driver here that you can check out for the Realtek card reader.  Lot of people (who were experiencing the issue) have seen improvement with this, however it may not completely address the problem.

If you don't have any issues with SD reader lag/stutter you can ignore the above.

There was also a new chipset driver released by AMD that optimizes how modern standby performs a bit which we suspect may be contributing in some way to the stutter.  So the combination of the new chipset driver and the beta SD reader driver may get you closer to resolution.

Lenovo will eventually release these through our own support site (and through Legion Space) but if you'd like to get them installed earlier feel free.

For those with Genesys SD readers affected with the same issue no one is ignoring that, we're assuming whatever fix we find for Realtek (where we have more people affected and thus more data to work with) can be applied to Genesys if/when necessary.

Based on the positive reception for the Realtek driver we'll look at pushing that out to everyone as an official driver through Space, as well as seeing if we can implement the same modifications to the Genesys driver.

Left Speaker Interference

Swapping a unit with one affected user (possibly 2) to get to our quality team for diagnosis.  Will provide updates as available.  In the meantime, many users have reported alleviation of this issue through updates of all available BIOS/Drivers through Legion Space.  Strongly recommend keeping your system up to date as much as possible as fixes may have already been released for issues you're experiencing.

Diablo 4

Some reports that Space is preventing Diablo 4 from launching properly.  Just happens that Space updated the same day as Blizzard updated Diablo 4 which introduced a small snafu detailed here (including solve): https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d4/t/diablo-4-crashes-when-it-is-loading/149125/85

As a side note, have enjoyed playing this on my Go personally.

Also, big thanks again to our beta testers.  They have been a huge help to me personally (and to you indirectly), sincerely appreciate their time and energy spent improving the product.

  • I think I have the amd driver 24.1.1 with the AFMF feature that is still being worked on. Is the one I have now still ahead of this one you mentioned?

  • Hi  ,

Thanks a lot for the update.

As this was on the update roadmap at the beginning, but wasn't mentioned again lately (if I recall right / sorry if it was, but I didn't see it), are you still planning to include a VRAM size switch setting out of LegionSpace?
That would be so convenient, instead of having to reboot the Legion Go each time to switch and test for example between 6GB mode and Auto Mode, to see on which game one setting runs better, or the other...

    P. S.:
Will finally make it to test out the Beta Bios Update today too, and I'm looking forward to it WinkOk hand

  • I really don't wanna press on this, because  already answered to this months ago, but will the update adoption speed of new AMD graphics drivers always take as long as now, or will there be any speed up in the forseeable future?

It sincerely really feels like ages, since the last official driver was released, and so many people are waiting for the AFMF feature to be implemented into the official Lenovo drivers for the Go (including the optimizations for the newest released games)...

  • It is... Still waiting for the updated version...
(or I just missed an automatic Update, because I also have the AMD driver [from their web site] including AFMF installed, and it just doesn't trigger the automatic update for us because of that...)

  • Actually come to think of it. I had an amd optional update yesterday that I downloaded. This may be the same drive. I'll have to check the history.

  • The same driver you mean - that would be awesome! Need to double check it too! GrinningGrinningGrinning

  •    Thank you for the update. I hope all is well with you and yours!

Is there an update or roadmap for gyro functionality without the necessity of using a workaround such as, Handheld Companion, Steam Input (admittedly I haven't tried it), or GPD's Motion Controller?

Side note: In Linux Steam Deck Editions (Bazzite, Nobara, and Chimera), the gyro functions well! The Legion Go is recognized as a PS5 controller in these versions (distros) of Linux.

  • Just looked it was the Lenovo Ltd firmware theat was an option update and it was version 1.11.0.0. Clicking on the link for the drivers that Ben posted looks like they're from the actual amd site and are updated drivers of the last one that just released not that long ago. I don't think I'm gonna download them because I think the 24.1.1 drivers I have are the latest right now with the AFMF feature

  • Are you connected to an external display? Last I had read/seen, it only worked on external displays bc of the unfortunate native portrait orientation on the Go.

I'm hopeful the team + AMD's teams will be able to get AFMF rocking on our Go's! Slight smile
