Can you game on i5 or does it have to be i7 or i9? What's NECESSARY as opposed to what is nice or won't get you ridiculed? Haters gonna hate...

Depends on what games you want to play. I think i5 can still run most games. You will probably have to update it when you get a new GPU though.

I have a i3 12100f and it does the job for me. I get like 300 fps on val, 400 on Rocket league, and over 200 in fortnite which are the main games I play,

You'll have no problems meeting the minimum for every game, but you'll definitely bottleneck a lot of GPUs.
