Had enough of fighting across the battlefields of old?

Ready to relive the glory days of games like Battlefield 2, 3, and 4? Well, you don’t have long to wait. News has broken from EA, that Battlefield 6 is due for an unveiling sometime in Spring, and that gamers can expect it to actually release in the Holiday season of this year.

Nothing has been confirmed about the time period in which the new installment is set, but rumors have been floating around of a return to modern combat, and that’d make sense given the last two title’s focus on the World Wars. Perhaps we’ll see a middle ground, instead returning to Vietnam and other late 20th century conflicts?

Regardless, EA CEO Andrew Wilson affirmed in a recent earnings call that we can all expect exciting new developments this year, not only in the form of a new game, but also in the technological advancements coming with it:

“[Battlefield 6] takes full advantage of the power of next-generation platforms to bring massive and immersive battles to life with more players than ever. Featuring maps with unprecedented scale, the next vision of Battlefield takes all the destruction, player agency, and vehicle and weapon combat that the franchise is known for and elevates it to another level. The team is focused, and the game is ahead of our internal milestones, [The game will] mark a return to all-out military warfare."

Looks like we have plenty to look forward to then; I’m sure those players looking to head back to the days of M16s and M4s will be pleased to hear more. What do you think? Happy with current Battlefield experiences, or eager to move onto something new? Share your comments below!
