Real time strategy fans have plenty to be excited about early next month.
Microsoft just announced plans to show off what they’ve been working on when it comes to all things Age of Empires. To be clear, that’s not just for their next addition to the franchise, but also updates and additions to the previous games as well.
Kicking off April 10th we can expect to hear about Age of Empires IV, the newest game in the series, bringing with it exciting new gameplay, campaigns, and hopefully new mechanics to sink our teeth into. While we’re waiting for that to release, Microsoft want us to continue enjoying the likes of Age of Empires II and III’s definitive editions, which is why they’ll both be part of the event as well.
Both games are expected to receive new content in the form of new civilisations, campaigns, and more, but we’ll need to wait until the 10th to see what those ultimately are. While I love the older games, I’m ready to see what the studio behind them has for us next. Real-time strategy fans are sorely in need of some fresh content in the genre (despite most classic RTS games like Starcraft, AoE, and Warcraft still going strong), and Age of Empires IV could just fit the bill.
The new gameplay footage from the announcement link above has me excited; the game looks polished, intricate, and more Age of Empirey (yes, I’m making up words now) than ever. I can’t wait to see more, and more than that, I can’t wait to play it for myself.
So RTS fans, I’ll see you for the livestream April 10th! You can tune in from a multitude of locations, as detailed by Microsoft themselves:
“The event begins with a special, half-hour broadcast starting at 9 a.m. PT on April 10, which will be streamed live AgeofEmpires.com, Twitch, Facebook Live, the Xbox YouTube channel, and Bilibili for our fans in China!”
Will you be there? Let us know what you’re most excited to see in the comments.
