@Saka I've zero context of what happens in Guild Wars 2, but this track gave me goosebumps. So good! I wouldn't be surprised if tracks from this game served as inspiration for the composers of Nier Automata and Hollow Knight. Certified onion ninjas material right here😭

@DoctorEldritch Oh wow I wasn't aware of the Yakuza thingy at all! I think something similar happened with some of the GTA games as well. So many iconic songs removed from the radio station because of licensing issues😔Big bummer.

I ain't playing the next silent hill if it doesn't feature Mark Hamill singing in that haunting, yet sad tone. The lyrics my goodness😢And yeah, I hope we can find some Yakuza fans in this community via that Yakuza thread😁

@DoctorEldritch I love Metal and Rock in general and japan has some amazing artists. I do like japonese metal, they combine the cutenes and melody of the language with guturals and sweet melodies at the same time, and to do that properly, well, it requires a lot of skill as vocalist. I think from the 80s X Japan is very amazing and also Buck Tick (The video I share is soooo 80s) And X Japan basicaly invented Visual Kei, so they are quite important in Japanese rock history (Visual kei being the darker, more goth and punk crazy harajuku look).

On the more modern bands I love Dadaroma, nice rifts and imagery and hevavier than usual melodic rock. (if you dont like disturbing stuff dont click the video).

And finally my favourite of the list is The Gazette. Rukis vocals only get better with the years, switching from melodies to guturals so fast. Ieave here two videos cuz Dogma is their best album ever, so please dont ask me to decide just on one song😭

This one is very melodic, but still has some heavyness to it (I dont know how they do it)

And finally SIM are a super good metal band, and here I leave you with The Rumbling, and who heard this song already knows it is an absolute headbanger!

@galadrielmt Wow, this is quite a showcase! To be n=honest, many are a bit too intense for me, but I liked the 1987 one! Maybe I am old-fashioned that way. Then again, I do not have much experience with Japan Metal aside from that in the Yakuza series or some anime opening, so it was educational!

@ZaidH Yeah, Yakuza has some stories about how they made the series, like when they change the actor (and visuals) of Masayoshi Tanimura after some scandal. Maybe not the most pleasant story, but it is stories like that that give the series a dimension and make up its "saga".

And licensing is a touchy subject for games, that is true. And it happens all the time, like the remaster of Alan Wake has different commercial posters. In that case, it sort of makes sense because most of the products on those posters would be old news by now, but I wish they'd work out a better system for intellectual property like songs.

Maybe if Disney, already having StarWars in its pocket, would buy out Konami as well (and let's face it, if they could buy Marvel, they can pretty much buy anyone), and get Mark on board, then we might get his voice in one of the Silent Hill games yet.

As for the Yakuza, I installed the 4th part again, inspired by our conversation. Will probably need some time to get into it because I also just started Assassins Creed Syndicate last week and am also in the middle of Middle-earth Shadow of War, but I want to start chipping at it and get to the point where I was cut off. Then I would not be afraid of spoilers in the Yakuza thread. But as a start, here is a piece for you: Like a Dragon 2 is coming and Kiryu will be one of the two main protagonists with Ichiban, but it is a rumour, so take it with a grain of salt.

@DoctorEldritch Oh wow that's definitely poor judgement from the actor's agency. It's ironic how they have a Yakuza-esque status in Japan😅

I'm just hoping that Konami's board and Hideo Kojima are on good terms now, because if we get a Kojima Silent Hill game, he's 100% gonna fill it with top tier actors. Kojima has praised Hamil's work in the past, so y'know there might be a chance😭SH showcase please be good! /copium

Now that's a great way to tackle Yakuza 4! Going all sneaky sneak in Syndicate (and maybe SoW) to the in your face action in Yakuza😂 I haven't played Yakuza 6 yet, so I was shocked to see that hairdo on Kiryu in that announcement 🤣
@galadrielmt So happy to see SiM in this thread! The range on these talented individuals is insane. Can't believe they composed a song for Yakuza Kiwami 2 and then landed the Attack on Titan gig😁

@ZaidH To be fair, there are some agency fiascoes in Japan that are quite resonating. The one that always comes to my mind is conflict of one of the main voice actresses tat resulted in School Rumble season 3 cancellation. That was a bummer.

You may be happy to know, to commemorate Japan Culture Day today, I created a Yakuza-dedicated thread, so all Yakuza fans can gather there to discuss the series now!

My goodness, cancellation this late into the series must be such a big bummer for the fans :/. I hope the anime gets an OVA sometime in the future.

Wohoooo, lemme check out that Yakuza thread😁

You guys shared some really amazing game themes in this thread, so please keep 'em coming🤩Gotta keep this thread active😤
