    Hello gamers!

So lately I've shared my opinions about in-game music to my gaming friends and to @MoriMoonpaw. From my point of view environment feels much more lively and much more deep when you got the right type of music there.

Sometimes I even do get chills when I see and hear something spectacular and gaming music has kinda become my favorite. I keep listening game music playlists from Spotify and YouTube.

But I also do know that majority of the gamers do not care about the in-game music: they turn the music off when they are playing rather than listening of it. I keep asking, why is that?

So here it is! A thread where you can share opinions about your favorite (or, disliked, whatever you want) gaming music. Are you keeping music on while playing the game? Do you have any song which you particularly do enjoy? Share it here. 😎

I'll start. As a big World of Warcraft fan, there are couple of sons which I really do wanna share with you all:

I absolutely love Stormsong Valley zone from Battle for Azeroth expansion. All those graphical details make you think some type of medieval village lived by the humans. When you do combine that with the music.. perfect! You can even hear the birds singing, or, if it's raining, those tiny drops hitting the floors and the ground.

Another one is Sholazar Basin zone from Wrath of the Lich King expansion. I know, it's old, but The Jungle with this type of music.. flute, drums that are played by hand, an instrument that, when waved, makes small beads move inside (can't remember an exact name).

And then there's Jade Forest zone from Mists of Pandaria expansion. Whole expansion was magnificent job by the graphical design team. They outdid themselves. All these Chinese styled buildings alongside the asian type of music from medieval times. Yes, please!

What do you think? If you are someone whom does not like in-game music, could this possibly change your mind? What's an importance of music in gaming?

An exciting topic, this one, @Liue!

Personally, I like jazz, and games that feature it. So much so that in the past, I made a whole post about it. Collected some of my favorite examples there. And while most of the time jazz is used to set a particular mood (and I fully agree that music is important in games), I want to say that, in the case of Genesis Noir, music is one of the central aspects of gameplay).

But that is just one genre, of course, there are many other good pieces besides jazz. Not that long ago I and @Raine had a discussion about metal and how the Brutal Legend game is all about that music genre, indeed, a game like that could not be made without such music.

But here we touch on the subject of whether songs are the same as music or not?

There's a lot of gaming music that I love, but for now I'll start with these 3 (the firsts that come to my mind) I also liked some on Street Fighter 4 or 5 I don't recall it and Duke Nukem 3D main theme that I loooooove sooo much and many others, but that would be too much for one post 😂

and (bonus) this one is my ringtone 😂

    ... and many more

    Thanks @DoctorEldritch!

Watching and listening Brutal Legend trailer right now. Especially enjoying the part between 1:12 - 1:43, that's when true heavy metal part starts: "What is that sound?" Oh yesss. 🤙 Definitely fits the game trailer, perfect.

Also, to your question regarding if game music is same thing as music: that's a good question. From my point of view, yes, I would say they are. Majority of the game music is composed by the symphonic orchestras, making it deep and giving it this special feeling. So, so many times singing is added as part of the music as GoLLuM has on his post.
@GoLLuM13, Ori and the Wisps is quickly becoming my favorite. That female singing in the background! Oh my gosh, what a beautiful voice! I am adding this song to my Youtube Music playlist. I already like it so much that it's gonna be playing from my headset when I go out. Absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful game songs I have ever heard. I am going to check out this game, already just because of the music itself. You should see my thoughts now, as well as my mouth slowly and quietly saying: "Wow.."

And ah, Final Fantasy. That taste you have for games and for good game music, I sentimentalize you. This is beautiful. Adding this into my playlist as well. @GoLLuM13, you are true gaming music specialist!

After only playing through FFXIV: Endwalker you could completely understand these words. Like I wrote about importance of lore in gaming, Square Enix really brought it to alive in this one.

Thank you for your word, but I can't pretend to be a specialist of gaming music, I just know some that I enjoy listening to 😊

And you're right about Ori this is just one of the best if not the best game music ever. And the story in the game OMG I remember I played it during the quarantine and the ending made my brain spin a thousand times. Both Ori games are available on the Game Pass, if you have a chance to play them do not hesitate.

I just listened to FFXIV Endwalker song, and I literally have goosebumps 🤩

@Liue Thank you for sharing your opinion on whether game music is the same thing as music, I too think it certainly is, and some of them you could perform at a classic concert, too (same as film music is proper music).

But what I want to get deeper into is whether songs, actual songs with words and verses, fall into the same category as music for your or separate. After all, musical and singing performances are different forms of art. Though songs very often (but not always) have musical accompaniment.

For example, there is a couple of songs in Psychonauts 2 written specifically for the game. One of them is performed by Jack Black from Brutal Legend:

I do enjoy it, of course, but the feeling I get from actual songs is different from what I get from just music, so I wanted to ask, do you approach them differently as well, or maybe not?

Thank you @Raine 💙 "Shadow of the Colossus" is a Masterpiece 😍

I like this version of the Duke Nukem theme (maybe because I already like the band ? 😜)

I could not play Shadow of Colossus, not having a PS, but it does sound epic!

How about the soundtrack from Hollow Knight?

I wonder if they asked Christopher Larkin to compose for the upcoming Silksong too?

Bumping this thread up with a new song. When you are having a flu, your nose is stucked and feels like breathing through is impossible and you are coughing your lungs out.

You might not dance when you are sick, but you definitely would like to.
