@DoctorEldritch Yeah I guess I need to look at the bigger picture. Emulators are developed for a player's convenience, The ones I'm referring to are the old ones. Most of the ROMS wouldn't load or will crash during gameplay.

I haven't used an emulator in quite a while and I'm sure there is a whole lot of improvement.

I feel exactly like Bart does about this month. It has been the worst one so far. I'm hoping for the "best day" to arrive soon. 😶

I'm definitely not going to wait 19 years for an update 😂. Imagine the calculations are 100% correct and the download will take that long to download. 😶

Everyone would throw their routers out the window.

We'll revert to the olden days and install the game from a disk or stiffy. It would be a whole lot faster. 😂

@DracoTarot It may also depend on the game and why you use emulators. There may be old games that were released on PC but do not run on modern models, like the first Prince of Persia, for example, that's one thing. Those are probably easier to do, the code is all there, and all that is needed is an upgrade to a newer version of Windows.

But then there are games that were never released on PC at all. Some Uncharted games, Fable 2, Bloodborne. Even Red Dead Redemption until very recently. Those require much more work, and sometimes can't be done for legal IP reasons, too. I've been wanting to play Fable 2 for over a decade. Somewhat excited about the fan-made PC port that is currently in the works.

Hopefully, that speed is something temporary, maybe there is a glitch somewhere...

Ah well, there is a lot to be said disks these days. Just last year Ubisoft's Philippe Tremblay suggested that gamers should become "comfortable" with the idea of not owning their games, which was a bit polarizing. Who knows what the future brings for physical copies. And Ubisoft itself, fo that matter: much depends for them on how AC Shadow gets received today...

@DoctorEldritch MAME is the best for all those old 8 and 16-bit console and PC games and will run on most modern models even if it's in windowed mode. I have noticed the games may not run on AMD systems as well for some reason and it has nothing to do with the operating system. It seems to be hardware-related.

In my opinion, take Rockstar Games for example, they know that some people own both a console and a PC, and they prefer playing on the PC, but are impatient enough to get the console version of a game if it releases significantly before the PC version, and will then get the PC version later to replay the game with the best version but it's kind of a crappy move because Rockstar just banks on people buying multiple copies. The thing is that it will be released on PS5, a year later or STH on pc taking advantage of much stronger specs. Then PS6 so people from PS5 without a pc buy a second time as well.

Some studios are in a position to release a game on all platforms including PC but to be fair we can't blame the devs, but we can blame the suits.

I remember Philippe Tremblay mentioning that. It just shows how some of these executives operate. By saying you are welcome to pay for the product and use it but we do not allow you to own a copy is just wrong.

@DracoTarot To be fair, I have not played those old games in a while, I mostly remember them fondly from my childhood. But I do not set a goal to try them out now, so not sure what emulators are good for them.

perhaps, I am not really sure what the logic is behind having multiple platforms, I only ever had a PC. I used to think that consoles were more "social", you get to play with friends on a sofa in front of a TV and "hang out" and all that, but these days with MMOs and all the connectivity options out there for PCs, they no longer feel as isolated.

Another reason could be that PCs have more utility, you can do a lot more with them than just gaming, so maybe some people buy consoles for gaming and PCs for work and browsing. But what is the reason behind having both console and PC and playing them both I am not sure. Personally, I would never even consider buying a new platform just to play a game exclusive to it.

Well, I've since read that it was taken a bit out of context, and it was one of the options on offer for those who prefer it this way, he said. Still, as we're moving into increasingly digitalised content storage, you do start to wonder. Oe thing that annoys me most is when you need an internet connection to play or launch a game: when I am on a train or just have no internet, I want to be able to play my games, not be stuck waiting for a signal...

@DoctorEldritch, I play old games like Pac-Man, Mortal Kombat, and other titles on MAME once in a while, but I am a bit irritated with some of the emulators which do not want to work alongside the hardware. Too many crashes.

I sold my consoles to upgrade my PC a while back, and because I do not have that "social" environment to my disposal, I did not see the use in owning any consoles. Multitasking is also out of the question with consoles. PC gaming still is and will always be the best.

Being constantly connected to the internet also irritates me so much. Not being able to start a game because you need an internet connection is the pits. That's why I think many gamers prefer to own consoles, too. Many games do not need a connection for a single player.

My question is, why do developers allow consoles to have that option but not PC doesn't? One vague explanation I heard was because on PC, you have a Login profile on most platforms and a console, so it's not needed, but on a console, you still need to connect to STEAM, for example, to download a game and login.

Does not make sense at all.

@DracoTarot Mortal Kombat has no remaster that would make it runnable on modern devices? Odd if so, I'd expect a game of such legacy to have one...

I never had consoles, but otherwise agree with the statement. PC has more utility. The only thing is that it is quite distracting to have movies, games, the internet and work all packed into one 😅

Is that so? I thought more big developers were introducing those online checking systems. Do you still need that Ubisoft connection to play Assassins Creed? And I think Diablo 3 as well?

I am not sure I get it, why is an account on PC or console a factor, you can have the same account and access it from the console and PC if you have both, I think?

@DoctorEldritch There is an MK Trilogy 4K remake from a studio called Eyebalisitc Remake. I think it's available on most devices. Not sure about mobile.

Yeah, PC will always be King. I'd rather spend money on a PC than buy a console. Pc's are upgradable, and consoles are not. All packed into one is the way to go. 😊

Yes, I still need an active internet connection to play Diablo 3 and other games from Ubisoft like Assassins Creed. After all these years, I would've thought they would at least allow offline single-player on PC. They allow console players to enjoy offline play, and it seems a bit unfair to me.

I also don't get it. It's frustrating. You can use one account to log in on both PC and console. Allowing console players not to have an internet connection to play a game once again is unfair. In my eyes, if you need to have an active account on PC, you must also need one on a console, in all fairness.

@DracoTarot Ah, so there is one, I do not really follow fighting games or races so I did not know. And I am not bothered by mobile, I do not play mobile games at all.

PC certainly is more versatile. But then, why are consoles still a thing? There must be something there...

I wonder why. Maybe it is an anti-piracy strategy? @ramax recently had a post about piracy, maybe he knows. I am not sure what other reasons there could be, nothing really comes to mind.

@DoctorEldritch, I think Ed Boon mentioned they want to do an MK 1 remaster in the future. I do like mobile gaming sometimes, but I also have an issue of not being able to play the games because of my potato phone. A phone with 64 gig storage and 3 gigs ram does not fair well with the new releases.

Maybe consoles won't be a thing for long, and gamers will have a change of mind. Platform exclusivity has been a driving force in the gaming industry, but major studios are shifting towards a more open approach. Microsoft, Sony, and other studios are releasing games on multiple platforms and focusing on subscription services, potentially leading to the end of console exclusives.

Not sure if it's anti-piracy. Iv'se seen a lot of XBOX and PS pirated games running on consoles directly download to PC and then copied to the consoles.

I think it's to force players to subscribe to their platforms for additional marketing material distribution and, in certain cases, force players to patch games, which sometimes are not neccicarily needed.

@DracoTarot Well, remaster is always good, but at the end of the day, for me it is neither here nor there, I doubt I'll try it remastered or not, fighting games are just not my thing at all.

I did not even have a smartphone until recently, I used those old-style handy phones. Even after I got a smartphone afterwards for the convenience of some apps, I do not use it for gaming. I prefer using it to read instead.

Could be, but then again, is console a supply or demand-driven product? As in, do studios still release games on consoles because people like and buy consoles for some reason, or do people buy consoles because games are released on them? If it is the latter, then that change you mentioned will result in console decline, but if not, then there is something about console appeal that I do not get.
