It took a while to get used to a mechanical keyboard coming from only using a laptop, but honestly as long as the keyboard works, I just leave it up to the person to pick what they like. If you do get a mechanical keyboard then you need to keep in mind the type of switch you would want. I prefer linear cause I like the smooth feeling and don't like loud noise. I don't know if you are familiar with the three main types of mechanical switches, but just in case:

\n clicky = loudest noise, as the name implies it makes a clicky sound, you feel a bump when key is pressed.

tactile = moderate noise, no click but lower pitched bumpy sound, you feel a bump when key is pressed.

linear = quietest noise, It still makes noise but usually just the sound of the switch rubbing as it moves up and down, completely smooth with no bump when pressed.

The sound can also effected by the kinds of keycaps and the body of the keyboard as well. There are a lot of different people on youtube who post keyboard sound tests, so if you want to know how a keyboard sounds you might be able to find a video of it. You could also read some reviews to see if any have good information about how it feels to type on. I usually hear people say linear is better for gaming and isn't as good for a lot of typing since you can't feel the bump when the key is pressed, but that could be a personal preference thing.

\n The only thing I can say that is a definite wrong answer when buying a keyboard is getting a membrane keyboard that is a mechanical wanna-be. I made the mistake of getting a membrane razer keyboard that had little metal tabs on the inside to simulate the feeling of mechanical switches. The keys always got stuck when I pressed down so I ended up bending all of the little metal tabs in. Maybe there is a hybrid keyboard with better build quality, but picking one or the other is better I think honestly.
