Card Game Slay the Spire is Being Transformed into a Board Game

Blog/Article

Slay The Spire is arguably one of the best indie games released in the last few years.

I alone have put dozens of hours into it, and that’s even before modding it to add even more cards, characters, and items to mix up the play. But now, if I’m away from my computer, and I fancy doing a few runs through the Spire, I’ll soon be able to do so via the wonder of traditional board games.

Transforming the deck-building roguelike into a physical equivalent, players picking up the board game will work with up to three other players to craft unique decks, beat creatures, discover relics, and become the heroes needed to overcome the Spire.

A Kickstarter for the board game is coming sometime in Spring of this year, and after an overwhelmingly positive reception in its digital format, I’d be very surprised if the physical equivalent failed to meet its target when that fundraising effort opens up.

Details on what’s included in the board game are a little light on the ground; we don’t know too much more than what’s been detailed above, but I fully expect it to be the video game in a format you can enjoy with others around a table.

Like others have already speculated, I imagine each player will assume one of the in-game characters; the Ironclad, the Silent, the Defect, and the Watcher, who each offer unique mechanics and cards – at least, in the video game.

If you’ve not already played Slay the Spire, I beg you to go and check it out. It’s one of my favorite games in recent years, and I’d urge anyone to give it a go, even gamers who haven’t traditionally enjoyed roguelikes.

Will you be picking up the board game when it’s out? Have some other video-to-board game recommendations for us? Drop them in the comments below!
