Ready to Embark on a new Adventure?
Embark Studios is a development studio founded by Patrick Söderlund, former CEO and GM of DICE (the Battlefield franchise developer) and subsequently VP of worldwide studios at EA. Founded in 2018, we’ve not heard too much from behind its doors, until now that is.
Accruing more than 200 employees in under two years, Embark Studios recently introduced us to what they’ve all been working on, though admittedly it’s only 9 seconds of footage. Still, those valuable seconds of gameplay look incredibly good, with beautiful vistas, combat visuals, and very fluid player animations.
Although untitled, the short series of gameplay chunks follow the player character across multiple locales, with stunning desert environments to see, a missile barrage to avoid, and more. You can view the footage for yourself here.
As part of the Twitter thread, the studio also showed us a glimpse of their second game, despite their first not yet having a name, as well as some insights into their game creation tools, and approach to machine learning and procedural asset generation.
You can certainly see where Söderlund and the team have taken inspiration from the stunning visuals of DICE’s Battlefield franchise; the environments of Battlefield 1’s Sinai Desert certainly come to mind while watching the footage. The Battlefield franchise has always aimed for high visual fidelity since the third installation, and it seems Söderlund wants to bring that same level of shine to his studio’s next game.
While there are few details to pore over, it’s clear we can expect plenty of running around and combat to take place throughout. If you’re interested in Embark’s journey and how they’ve been progressing since starting out two years ago, you can read their post here.
