Well, it seems recent rumors were wrong. Sorry, folks.
Rumors had pointed to a March release for the remastered Mass Effect trilogy, but alas; this is why rumors are always to be taken with a grain of salt.
Still, it’s not too much longer to wait, now that we know the official launch date for the game; May 14th is when we’ll be getting our hands on Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’s shiny new visuals and gameplay enhancements.
EA has confirmed that players will enjoy all the single player content and expansions from all three titles – minus Mass Effect 1’s Pinnacle Station DLC due to code corruption – along with 4K and HDR visuals, and a number of other improvements.
One such improvement? Those pesky elevator rides on the Citadel will no longer take forever. Originally designed to act as more interesting loading screens, these days they’re unskippable time-wasters on more powerful, modern PC hardware. No worries though, because they’re about to be more than three times faster than the original version, and once loading has completed, you’ll be able to skip them entirely. Perfect for those who just want to head to their favorite store on the Citadel.
Gamers will also enjoy modernized combat mechanics for the first game, with better aiming, controlling of squad members, Mako handling (yes!), and cameras. All character models have been remastered, tens of thousands of textures have been up-rezzed, and lighting, shaders, VFX, and more have also seen improvements. Overall, it sounds like a mighty improvement over the originals.
As someone who’s been holding off on another playthrough, I think I can manage the wait of three months or so until the game’s release. Can I? Can you? Let us know in the comments below which game or part of the trilogy you’re most excited to see all shiny and new later this year, in the comments below!
