Thoughts on eGPU?

I have an opportunity to get my hands on a RTX 3090 for free (family).  But have no desire to build a gaming rig as I travel for work often.  I do have an HP omen eGPU case and was looking at even slimmer options that could fit in my carry-on.  Does anyone else game on their Legion with an eGPU setup and is it even possible?  What is everyone's thoughts?
