@DoctorEldritch Actually while the gameplay looks similar in reality it is not, it is like comparing Mario and Sonic or Crash and Spyro they're all platformers, but they're not the same. With versus fighting games, there are two main branches, the 2D fighting games and the 3D fighting games. The 2D ones are the ones like Capcom's Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, King of Fighters and most of the Mortal Kombat franchise where you can only move vertically (jump and duck) and horizontally (left and right), while the 3D one like Virtua Fighter, Tekken and Soulcalibur adds to all this the ability to exploit the depth of the space around which means you can dodge in the background or the foreground.
But even then there are subtleties that make them different, for example in some games when we move away from the opponent at some point (the area seen on the screen) there is an invisible wall we can't go further unless the opponent comes to our direction, on the other hand in other games, the further you move away from the opponent, the more there is a zoom out which shrinks the size of the characters on screen (on some Dragon Ball games we can even have a split screen).
Some games want to be realistic, while on others you have fireball projections and/or super gore attacks.
There is also the balance between the access and mastery, a game like Guilty Gear needs a lot of time to be accessible and even more to access it, something like Street Fighter is more accessible but still hard to master and the ease of access means quick fun without knowing how to do a combo or even with auto combo.
    I don't know if I'm saying is understandable, but I tried 😂

@DoctorEldritch It is much harder to find the players with a more laidback nature, who still want to do certain types of content. So that's problematic.

@GoLLuM13 Oh my, fighting games seem to have more going on than I initially gave them credit for. I still can't really enjoy them, I do not have the necessary nimbleness of fingers and reaction time, but it is good to learn that the genre is more nuanced and multifaced than I thought.

Though the initial question got more relevant because of this: with all this variety present, how do you choose one fighter over the other?

@Saka Maybe you can post an advertisement like you're looking for a new hire or a flatmate? Kind of like "Looking for gamers, need to be laid back, etc." Post it an see if maybe someone responds?

@DoctorEldritch We had been doing that for years, patch by patch it was getting harder and harder to get new people who would stay. Without the posts in public places the recruitment is impossible, and even then you still need to reach out to a lot of people to get them to apply.

I used to be the recruitment officers, and honestly, I don't miss it a tiny bit.

@DoctorEldritch Personally it's more about the feeling when I watch someone playing and when I am the one playing, I can play a Mortal Kombat but I don't enjoy it like a Street Fighter or a Dragon Ball FighterZ, the reasons are simple, Street Fighter is the king and the base for many games and I'm used to it since the first one, you can play SF2 or SF6 you can pick up easily the differences and the way to play a character is almost the same, Dargon Ball FighterZ is a game with a lot of "spectacular" cut-scenes during the combat, you can have the impression you really are in the anime, for Mortal Kombat, I have less fun (doesn't mean I don't have any kind of fun) because the only purpose of this game is to be as gore as possible showing blood and decapitation, that was cool when I was a teenager but not anymore, in addition they like to change how to make special moves from an iteration to another which can be disturbing for long time gamers.

So excited for the phantom liberty dlc i want to go deeper into cyberpunk world as it needed more appreciation because the launch wasnot great because of glitches and performance issues but now it's in a very good and stable state one can dive in for hours😻

@Alexia4bit Phantom Liberty looks awesome indeed, and even without the DLC many new features will be added with the update 2.0 for the regular game 😊

@GoLLuM13 Tastes evolve with age experience, that's true. I was never a fan of gore, but I have stricter demands for lore and worldbuilding now. But it is interesting how you have a different effect when watching it. I do not usually watch other people play, so can't really relate, but would you say yo watch fighters more than you play them?

And about Phantom Liberty, I thought it and update 2.0 will go in tandem? It will be possible to have one without the other?
