Today I present to you one of the most significant technological innovations of 2025 - Perplexity Comet Browser, which redefines the concept of internet browsing with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

    What is Perplexity Comet?

Comet isn't just an ordinary browser - it's an AI-powered smart browser built on the Chromium framework. It features an integrated intelligent assistant that can perform tasks, conduct searches, and even shop on your behalf.

    Revolutionary Browser Features

    1. Advanced Smart Search

    • Advanced Search Engine: Replaces Google Search with Perplexity's intelligent engine that provides direct answers and comprehensive summaries instead of just links
    • Contextual Search: Remembers previous conversations and builds upon them, enabling progressive advanced searching
    • Verified Sources: Every answer comes with verifiable references and links

    2. Integrated Smart Assistant (Comet Assistant)

The smart assistant can perform complex tasks such as:

    • Email and appointment scheduling based on what it sees on the page
    • Automated shopping: Purchase forgotten items or compare prices
    • Content summarization: Can summarize emails, calendar events, and even YouTube videos
    • Tab management: Organize and manage all open tabs

    3. Smart Content Interaction

    • Highlighting and explanation: You can highlight any text to get instant explanations
    • Image analysis: Describe and analyze images displayed on screen
    • In-page search: Ask specific questions about current page content

The Power of AI in Comet

    Advanced AI Technologies

Comet uses a combination of the most powerful AI models:

    • OpenAI GPT-4o
    • Anthropic Claude 4.0 Sonnet
    • Perplexity's proprietary Sonar model

    Agentic AI

This is what truly sets Comet apart - its ability to act on your behalf:

    • Can open travel websites and plan trips
    • Book tickets with simple commands
    • Compare products and make purchasing decisions
    • Execute complex tasks across multiple websites

    Practical Experience

    Ease of Use

    • Familiar interface: Resembles Chrome in design with the ability to import all your data
    • Smart sidebar: Clicking the "Assistant" button opens a chat interface for AI interaction
    • Voice commands: Can interact with the assistant vocally

    Productivity Features

    • Export results: Save research and analysis in various formats
    • Deep search: Instantly explore different angles of topics
    • App integration: Work across different websites and applications

    Comparison with Traditional Browsers

While browsers like Chrome and Safari focus on general browsing, Comet aims to be a smart productivity hub:

    • Chrome: Provides multiple links requiring you to search yourself
    • Comet: Delivers direct answers with comprehensive analysis and verified sources

    Availability and Pricing

    Currently, Comet is available for:

    • Perplexity Max subscribers ($200 monthly)
    • Early access waitlist
A free version with limited smart features is expected to launch in the future.

    Future Outlook

Perplexity is negotiating with phone manufacturers to pre-install Comet, targeting "tens or hundreds of millions" of users. This indicates an ambitious vision to change how we interact with the internet.

    Conclusion

Comet represents a real leap toward the future of smart browsing. Instead of you searching for information, you now think out loud and Comet executes complete tasks. It's not just a browser, but an extension of your mind on the internet.

@JokerZida $200 monthly is a lot, I do not have that kind of budget for browsing, even with those advanced features 😅

Yup think the price for the vast majority of people is a complete dealbreaker. Might be that some people can figure out commercial uses for this that can justify the cost, as has been the case with ChatGPT.

@miskkie I do not use ChatGPT personally, but people I know only use the free option. I wonder, if Comet had a free option, they would probably be able to attract more people, and a portion of those may subscribe.
