@LilySensei (Paty) great thanks! I don't watch many shows but if I do get the chance will try.
@DoctorEldritch Ye these movies are great as well, I watched both, Gravity was very long and sometimes boring, but did have some of these effects, like being lost in space and stuff. The martian was great, gave more of the sense of loneliness on a large planet, but it does give me the urge to play Surviving mars, still a good movie.

@AviationGamerX Those are decent films. I liked Gravity because I liked George at the time, but not so much these days anymore. I'll need to think of other examples but, in the meantime, if you like, you could check out the Terror series from our series thread. It is sort of about the unknown, but not in a film format. But for me it was enjoyable enough, more so during this heat we're having.

The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo

I am mentioning this movie partially as a reference to @DracoTarot tattoo. The movie itself was fine for me, I guess I fell victim to heightened expectations. When it came out, it was rather hyped, so I was expecting more from it than what was actually delivered.

But it is still a decent movie with a decent cast and decent camera work, so if you're in the mood for a thriller, check it out.

@DoctorEldritch it was a decent movie. They wanted to make a series about the movie but never happened.

I also expected more but it was definitely worth the watch.

@DracoTarot You know, it was interesting to me in a sense where I liked it for James Craig. Curiously, I do not like him as James Bond (but then again, I do not like most things about the new JB movies in general), but I do like him in other films. My current favorite with him is Knives Out (I like detectives):

An entertaining enough detective story. And I am somewhat excited about the upcoming sequel.

@DoctorEldritch I'm also not a Bond fan. The first few movies were ok then I got bored with the whole idea concept.

He is a good actor and I liked most of the roles he played. Never watched Knives Out and will add the movie to my list.

@DracoTarot I like the classic Bond more, the one with Sean. It is a bit fun to watch them now because the effects are dated, and it looks so...innocent, for lack of a better word. But you're quite right, since then the concept has become overused. Though, with a nice spin on it, I generally like super-spy films.

On a slightly related note, I am playing Evil Genius 2 right now, so I may be more favorable to Bond films at just this moment in time.

@DracoTarot but more on Bond examples, I like it more when it is a comedy. Of course, there are more obvious examples like Austin Powers or Johnny English films, but I like Get Smart more:

The reason being, I like Steve, liked him in The Office and here. But mainly, that movie itself is a big homage to the 1960s series Get Smart, which in itself was a parody of Bond films back when those films were just starting. And the film has many references to that series. I watched the series, so I enjoyed spotting them.

Not that it's hard, for example, here is the intro from Get Smart movie:

And here is the intro from Get Smart series from 1960s:

See if you can spot 10 differences 😉

@DoctorEldritch well what I can spot is the doors are different and in the get the smart movie the actor is carrying lots of files and paperwork. In the series, the actor has no files with him.

In the movie, the actor doesn't arrive in a car but in the series he does. The telephone booth in the movie has red panels and in the series, the door panels are dark grey or black I think.

The telephone also differs from each other. In the movie, the phone has a dial pad and in the series, the phone has an old-fashioned rotation dialer.

The actor in the movie has no watch on his left wrist and the actor in the series has one.

In the Get Sart movie each room has lights on the floor but not in the series.

Both actors go through six doors until they reach the p[hone booth but in the movie, he only moves through six doors while inside the building and the actor in the series enters the first one from the outside.

Their ties also differ from each other.

    What I could spot is:

    Different doors
Files and paperwork in one scene but not in the other.
A car in the series but not in the movie.
Red panels on the phone booth in the series, grey ones in the movie
    Two different telephones.
Lights on the floors in the movie and none in the series.
Six doors, but one is from a street view in the series.
One actor has a wrist watch and the other doesn't
    Different ties on each actor.

    I found nine lol!!!

@DracoTarot Well done! To be honest, I did not mean it literally, I mean that comment more to show how similar they actually are, but you went above and beyond and found all those little details! Well, I guess they can't recreate classics flawlessly after all...
