Does a game made for esports make you more or less likely to play it over time?

Games that have an esports core get supported over years rather than having 1 year (there are exceptions such as COD). But they provide better value even if they cost you $60 or even free. But does that make you more likely to buy that game knowing your money will last you a long time.
