Has anyone used a CD/DVD disc buffer/polisher machine with success?

Discussion

Related to the recent media ownership question / discussion in the Legion Gaming Community, I was wondering if any of you have been able to repair scratched CDs/DVDs with success? I once had two stacks of about 300 CDs/DVDs each placed on a five-foot storage unit, since I was sorting them, and guess what would be the only time I accidently bumped into this storage unit... lol? Have you ever seen a Niagara Falls of optical discs? Most of the CDs/DVDs actually survived the fall pretty well, but a few got scratched up pretty badly. I tried to use the inexpensive self-cranking scratch repair tools that were sold when CDs/DVDs were popular, but it actually made the surface of the discs even worse. So, I looked into the machines that Blockbuster used to repair its discs - kind of like a car buffer/polisher in a box facing upward. I might purchase one in the future, but I was curious how others successfully repaired heavily scratched CDs/DVDs?
