Vulkan is the modern day successor to OpenGL, albeit with lower-level access to the GPU. It seems the new Blender 4.5 with Vulkan enabled doesn't work on my Lenovo ThinkPad laptop running Windows 10 22H2. However, it works on my laptop running Fedora 42 KDE Plasma Linux.
Intel stopped providing feature updates to the laptop's UHD 620 integrated GPU a year or two ago - Intel 6th-10th Gen processors have been deprecated for a while now, and my ThinkPad has an 8th Gen processor. Luckily, Fedora 42 KDE Plasma Linux includes the proper Mesa drivers to support Vulkan on this older hardware. So, if you are in a similar situation running Windows, you may wish to try Linux to extend the longevity of your hardware ๐
