I know people are probably tired of hearing about Helene but truth be told everyone needs a radio.
I have quite a few for GMRS and Ham. I would recommend everyone get a GMRS license or at least 1 person in the family. It covers your whole family even extended family to an extent for 10 years and it’s only $35 dollars. You will get issued a call sign from the FCC and then you will be able to talk to whoever within range.
The GMRS/Ham can be connected to repeaters and talk for many many fars. This will aid you in being able to communicate and or being rescued.
I have listened to a local repeater on top of Mt Mitchell and the community has been doing an excellent job reaching out and being able to help each other in a time of need.
