A Side Note on 24.4.1

It is amazing the performance this driver can ring out of AMD’s 7840’s integrated CPU and GPU family of APU’s. I have briefly used this driver on an HP EliteBook 845.

Background: I have been frustrated with the lack of Lenovo issued graphics driver updates, and the effect the incorporating a hardware based portrait display has exhibited in certain scenarios. Lessor factors that have contributed to my wanting something different from the Go is missing an integrated keyboard and mouse. When I use the Go for gaming it is usually propped up on a hard flat surface by the kickstand and using an Xbox controller. So I was packing several extra accessories to have a fully functional work and play PC. I know my use case is not the same as everyone’s, and most are just wanting a gaming PC. I bought it for that purpose originally too, As I already had a beefy Legion work/gaming laptop. Once I experienced the power of the AMD processor I started to want to use the Go as my exclusive work and gaming device when traveling. I can achieve this and it is a lighter load with all the needed accessories, a portable monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Xbox controller; but it is too complicated over just taking a light laptop and Xbox controller along when traveling.

So, when the opportunity presented itself to buy the HP EliteBook 845 for $681, I jumped on it. It’s specs are:

The HP laptop arrived yesterday and I am loving it! It came with outdated AMD graphics drivers from September, but ran the install of the current 24.4.1 flawlessly including the AMD (Catalyst Control Center) Software. It is great when an installing software just works. All AMD magic features like AFMF.
