EDIT: read below for a guide on how to uninstall this program completely
Hello,
10th of July, 2024, there was a required Windows update for my Legion Go which likely installed a software called "Lenovo System update" on my Legion Go.
After the system rebooted, "Lenovo System update" prompted me to choose a way I would like it to operate on my Legion Go ... naturally, I went to uninstall this program using the Windows program manager but during the process, I got a message stating that some files should not be deleted as they have already been used in some update process - I chose to keep those because I tend to chicken out when it comes to Windows system file management.
Everything seemed to work just fine and after consulting with Google, it seemed to me that it is safe to uninstall this software completely. I have then found a folder with the residing files and after inspecting them, I've come to a conclusion that they indeed were installed as a part of the update (or at least all the files created by this program were created on the day of this Windows update) and that it is safe to uninstall them if you wish.
What is Lenovo System update?
It is supposed to be able to look for drivers and other system related stuff and install them. This can be done manually or you can schedule regular checks.
I am not sure why it got installed on the Legion Go but since we already have Legion Space and Lenovo support site, at least from my point of view, it is definitely not necessary to have it installed on your Go and I actually think it can even cause you wrinkles later on.
The decision is up to you but unless you have trouble checking for up to date drivers and installing them in case of an issue, I would follow the steps below if you find this also installed on your Legion Go.
How to uninstall "Lenovo System Update"
Control Panel -> Add or remove programs -> find "Lenovo System Update "-> three dots -> uninstall
If you are prompted with a message like "Some files have already been used ... ... do you wish to delete those as well? -> click yes
If you clicked no or suspect that it didn't uninstall completely, look for the following paths where the not deleted files should be located:
1) C:\Program Files (x86) -> look for "Lenovo" folder (if the uninstall went successfully, this folder should be completely removed)
2) C:\ProgramData\Lenovo -> look for "SystemUpdate" folder (if success, the folder will be removed)
If the path from 2) cannot be seen directly in Explorer, click on "View" -> "Show" -> "Hidden items"
For me, only the "SystemUpdate" folder was still there, removed it, everything works.
If anyone knows more about this topic, please let me know and I will update the post
