@Inyeon I played System Shock both remastered and original, but I only did a bit of original, I had to run it using the emulator, and it did not run too well. I like it that they made a remaster. I also started SS 2 Remastered but have not finished it yet.

Though that being said, rather than enjoying them as games, which, to be fair, is somewhat hard since the gameplay is somewhat antiquated by modern standards, I enjoy them as an element of gaming history. I mean, this game was the one that inspired many of what came next. BioShock, Dishonoured, Thief, Prey, to name a few. It was interesting to go back to the roots a bit, historically speaking 😊

@DracoTarot SS2 is a good game, but it would be best if you played the first System Shock first. Have you done that or not yet?

Here are a couple more small free things. Not proper games even, just some add-ons. One for Rotwood, and another one for MXGP 26. While I have a reasonably strong suspicion noone here may be interested in these two small things, I thought I'd mention them on the off-chance that I'll be standing corrected 😅

“Of course DOC! And thanks for adding these. I will probably pass on these two since I don’t own the games, but thanks for the heads-up! 😄

I think most (if not all) will pass on these, but there is always, however small, a chance that someone here may have those games. So just to cover that possibility 😅

How about not free but cheap? Did you get anything at the Steam Autumn Sale this year?

[DracoTarot]

@DoctorEldritch I definitely did! The first SS was awesome and still is. If I can recall, I played it on Xbox and later on pc. 😀

[DoctorEldritch]

@DracoTarot I only played it on PC. A shame that SS3 never saw the light of day, but maybe now that SS1 and SS2 have been remastered and have got some attention (and considering how willing many creators and developers are these days to make nostalgic content 😅), we may actually get it at some point. I mean, it is still technically in development:

Stuck in production hell for over a decade now.

@DoctorEldritch It's a real shame yes. Who knows. Maybe they'll speed up the development especially with oth AI to their disposal. I'd guess in the future games will be done in half the time than we're used to.

[DoctorEldritch]

@DracoTarot Using AI to complete a game about rogue AI would be ironic. And if the AI they used to make this game used SHODAN as an inspiration and went rogue itself, that would be meta-ironic 😅

Though the use of AI in making games is a very complex topic these days. If you're interested, there is a whole thread about it. I keep updating it periodically.

[DracoTarot]

@DoctorEldritch I keep telling myself AI wouldn't be a problem in the future but hearing and seeing how AI evolved thus far, how would developers keep their jobs? Would human interaction be a thing of the past?

I mean I can literally write a 100 page book about any topic within a few hours and no one would actually know and I could lie and say it took me years to write the book.

I'll go check out the thread. Thanks. 😉

[DoctorEldritch]

@DracoTarot I think those two are two distinct concerns that should not necessarily be combined. It is true that developers' jobs may be at risk, but not necessarily the one you think. I mean, Values Value did that survey research recently, and they found that while one third (35%) of European game developers think that AI might cause them to lose their job or reduce demand for their role, two-thirds of them (61%) are concerned that generative AI will place them under pressure to work faster and produce more. What is better: redundancy or intense burnout-inducing pressure is an open question. You can read more of the report findings if you like.

But human interaction should be more resilient, I think. While AI dabbles in replacing human connection, I doubt it would get to the level where it can replace it in the near future. Then again, it grows so fast...

Ah, I think there are AI tools now that can detect if something is written by an AI. Universities use them a lot, I hear, and rightly so. That, and not sure how good such a book would be, AIs keep making factual mistakes still.
