Just found this video about the cult status of the original Thinkpad. (The one with the nubbin)
A fascinating documentary highlighting the culture around the device because of its combination of affordable, upgradeable, repairable, and indestructible. Looks like a very impressive device. I personally never used the device, but I have seen them IRL over the years. My first Lenovo laptop, also my first new laptop, was a 2015 Thinkpad g50-70. Close. Newer model. Still "works."
Is it possible to get a rugged, high spec modern version back into production? Something that will outlast cockroaches after a nuclear blast? Or get picked out of ocean wreckage after 60 years and, after proper draining, turn on as usual? An electronic heirloom to leave to grandchildren and not lose any value. Will increase customer satisfaction and reduce ewaste significantly.
Did you ever use it? Share your experiences with it. Does it live up to the hype?
